How to Boost Your Immune System (And Prevent Getting Sick)

It’s that time of the year.

You know... The first signs of an itchy throat. Empty spaces in the office. Open coughing fits on public transport that invoke paranoia.

And if we do happen to get sick, the bug seems to last for weeks and leaves us feeling strung-out, fatigued, and a bit useless.


But it doesn’t take a lot to prepare your immune system. There are simple, enjoyable ways to promote good health and wellbeing that will prevent the onset. You’ll even feel better for it while healthy, so it’s a win-win situation.

Start the day with juice

Drink plenty of fluids.

The Big Three
  • Echinacea


    Echinacea is a traditional remedy used for infections and viruses, such as the common cold and Flu.

    It's got no known toxicity.

  • Vitamin C


    Fresh rosehip: 100g of fresh wild rose hip contains about 30x the Vitamin C content of citrus (the body doesn't store Vitamin C, so it's important to keep daily levels high).

Use soap and water for at least 15 seconds. Scrub vigorously, as the friction helps to remove dirt etc. Dry your hands, as moisture is an ideal breeding ground for germs. Carry a hand-sanitizer to keep hands clean throughout the day (given how many surfaces we touch). Don’t go overboard – ensuring your workspace is clean.

Cool water works just as well as hot water for killing germs, provided you scrub and dry properly. You’d essentially need to use boiling water to get the bacteria-killing properties.

Be wary of shared spaces, taps, etc., as germs and viruses can hang around. Eating at your desk also exposes you to lingering germs around your desk, keyboard,

Viruses are passed by physical contact. Clean your hands before eating.
