10 of the most popular cooktops in Australia 2025

Effortless cooking options for every kitchen style.

Whether you’re renovating your kitchen or just replacing a worn-out stovetop, the right cooktop can seriously improve your cooking experience - and that’s from someone who battled a hob with weak gas supply and dodgy ignition for years.

Today’s cooktops come in all shapes, fuels and formats - from energy-efficient induction cooktops with sleek touch controls, to ceramic models with quick heat-up zones, and classic gas hobs that deliver high heat for sizzling stir-fries. To make things easier, we’ve rounded up 10 of the most popular cooktops with Appliances Online’s customers this year.

There’s something here for every home cook, whether you want pinpoint heat control or something that’s just durable and easy to clean.

Trending cooktops at a glance

Type: This year, induction cooktops make up four of the 10 models. Fast and energy-efficient, induction cooking works by generating a magnetic field that heats your cookware directly, rather than heating the hob itself. Ceramic cooktops also remain a strong choice, with four models offering electric heat beneath smooth, easy-to-clean ceramic glass surfaces. Traditional gas cooktops don’t dominate as they once did across Australia, with two models making the cut. Recent years have seen many people move away from gas appliances for various reasons.

Brands: The list includes a mix of cooktops from leading brands Bosch, Westinghouse, Smeg and Beko.

Fuel source: Eight of the 10 cooktops (induction and ceramic) are electric, while two models use natural gas and also come with LPG conversion kits, handy for those off the gas grid.

Width: All but three models are a standard 60cm wide, which makes them a common fit in most Australian kitchens. If you have a large kitchen you may well prefer the 80cm or 90cm models.

Cooking zones/burners: Most of the cooktops on the list have four zones, but one has three and a couple have five, which is great for entertainers.

Wok burners: If you’re a fan of stir-fries or deep frying, look for a cooktop with a dedicated wok burner - found on both gas cooktops in this list. Induction models with flexible zones also accommodate larger cookware like woks, though aficionados will bemoan the lack of flames licking the sides of the wok for a whole pan heat.

Price: Purchase prices vary, with budget options ($$$ - under $750) like the Beko 60cm Ceramic (#3); mid-range ($$$ - $750–$1,499) systems such as the Bosch Serie 4 Ceramic (#5); and premium ($$$ - over $1,500) models like the Westinghouse 90cm Induction (#7).

The price brackets relate specifically to where the models sit in relation to other cooktops on this list, and are based on the Recommended Retail Price (RRP). At Appliances Online, we sell at below RRP when possible: just click the details link for each model to see the actual price (which is often hundreds of dollars lower than the RRP).

Due to the combination of their larger sizes and advanced technology, the 80-90cm induction cooktops from Smeg, Bosch and Westinghouse are the most expensive to buy. The higher purchase price of induction cooktops, though, can be at least partially offset by the lower running costs over time.

Warranty: All of the cooktops on this list come with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty, but the Beko - like all Beko products - has the option to extend this by an additional 3 years.

A note on installing gas and electric cooktops

Most electric cooktops in Australia - whether ceramic or induction - need to be hardwired by a licensed electrician, as they typically draw more power than a regular power point can handle. These built-in appliances usually don’t come with a plug and must be directly connected to your household wiring in line with Australian safety standards. Likewise, gas cooktops must be installed by a licensed gas fitter. This includes connecting to your gas supply, sealing any joins, and checking for leaks. Even if you’re simply replacing an old gas or electric cooktop with a similar model, both types of installation legally require a qualified professional to ensure safe and compliant operation.

To make things easy, you can usually add installation to your order when buying your cooktop at Appliances Online.

Remember, the best cooktop is the one that matches your needs and your kitchen. For some people it’s all about size, for others it’s more about looks or safety. When considering different types of cooktop, think about how much bench space you have and the kind of cookware you’ll be using (induction cooktops need pots and pans with a magnetic base). Whether it’s precision heat control, a wok burner, or an easy-clean glass surface you’re after, there's a cooktop on this list to suit just about every Aussie kitchen.
