Keep your wardrobe fresh and dapper with smart ideas for better washing and drying.
Updated May 2026
Tired of line drying clothes in wet, humid weather, but don’t have space for a dryer? Think again with a washer-dryer combo.
If the relentless rain or the lack of an outside area means your home is always crowded with drying racks and damp laundry, you’re probably fed up with the musty smell clothes get when they dry slowly indoors. In the cold, wet months, a washer-dryer can be an absolute game-changer.

If you have a compact laundry, the space-saving convenience of a washer-dryer combo can be a really good option. Even if you have space for a washer and separate dryer, you might like the idea of a machine that saves you from emptying wet clothes from one and putting them in another.
It’s worth noting, though, that a combined wash-and-dry cycle can take longer than using separate washer and dryer units, but it does give you the convenience of being able to set it, head out, and return to clean, dry laundry.
You’ll notice that the drying capacities of the combo machines on this list are significantly smaller than their wash capacities, so you can’t put a full load of laundry on to wash and dry in one continuous program; instead, either wash smaller loads or run separate drying cycles. It’s a similar situation if you have a separate washing machine and dryer.
If you decide that you’d prefer separate machines after all, check out 10 of the most popular front load washing machines in Australia 2026 and 10 of the most popular clothes dryers in Australia 2026. If you're considering the space-saving alternative of stacking, check out these stackable washers and dryers.
If an all-in-one washer dryer combo is the best option for you, though, take a quick look at these 10 popular washer-dryer combos bought by Appliances Online customers in 2026.

**RRP unavailable for this model: displayed price based on usual selling price range.
Type: All combo models are front-load washer dryers because they need the front loader tumbling action to fully expose damp clothes to heated air. Top-load washers don't tumble clothes, so can’t achieve this. All the models on this list use condenser dryer technology, so they don't expel hot air and therefore don't need ventilation.
Capacity: The washing capacity across these models ranges from 8kg up to a generous 12kg, with most sitting comfortably around the 9kg to 10kg mark. Drying capacity is smaller, ranging from 4kg to 8kg, with most machines handling a 5kg to 6kg drying load. The Samsung 9kg wash/6kg dry, Telefunken 10kg/6kg, Seiki 10kg/6kg, and Electrolux 10kg/6kg models offer the best ratios for family-sized cycles.
A washer-dryer combo can only run a continuous wash-and-dry program if the wet weight after washing and spinning fits within the dryer capacity. This wash/dry mismatch means even a 9kg wash/5kg dry capacity machine may take only around 3kg of dry clothes in a single continuous program, because the added weight of the water can make the washed laundry weigh an extra couple of kilos. For larger loads, you'll need to split washing and drying into batches or run them separately.
This isn’t just the case for washer-dryer combos, though; full washes in standalone washing machines will generally need to be split into more than one load for machine drying as well.
Performance: All ten models feature a 1400rpm maximum spin speed, which helps reduce residual moisture and shortens drying times. A powerful spin cycle is particularly important in combos because it reduces the weight of clean clothes and therefore allows more washed laundry to be accommodated by the machine’s drying capacity.
Brands: Value-driven and premium names share the stage, with Telefunken, Beko, and Electrolux each securing two spots on the list, while Samsung, Seiki, Whirlpool and LG each hold one.
Dimensions: Most models stand 845-850mm tall, with standard front-loader widths of 595-600mm. Depth varies more significantly, from Whirlpool's compact 530mm machine to Haier's 688mm models. Manufacturers typically recommend allowing around 150mm clearance at the back of washer-dryers for hoses and connections, so keep that in mind if you’re planning to install it under a benchtop or in a recess.
Energy efficiency: Washing energy ratings are consistently high, clustering between 4 and 5 Energy Stars, with the Electrolux models leading the pack at a full 5 stars. Drying energy ratings see greater variation, ranging from a low 2 stars on the Telefunken and Seiki 10kg/6kg units up to 3.5 stars on the Beko 8kg/4kg and LG 10kg/6kg models.
Most washer dryer combos - including all those on this list - use condenser technology, which is more energy efficient than the tech in vented dryers, but less efficient than that used in standalone heat pump dryers.
A few washer dryer combos now exist that do use heat pump technology, but they tend to be supersized (some up to 18kg wash capacity) so would not be suitable for space-saving purposes in a compact laundry room.
Water efficiency: Water efficiency ratings mostly fall between 4 to 5 WELS stars, with Fisher & Paykel (#9) standing out with 5 stars. Consumption spans from a lean 68 litres per wash on the Telefunken 8kg model up to 102 litres for the heavy-duty 12kg Electrolux workhorse. The amount of litres used by a machine should always be considered in relation to its wash capacity (i.e. a larger capacity machine will use more water, but it may still have a high water efficiency).
Warranty: Most manufacturers provide a standard 2-year warranty, though Telefunken stands out with 3 years, and Beko offers an additional 3 years (giving you 5 total) upon registration. LG also adds peace of mind with a 10-year parts warranty on its DirectDrive motor.
Price: The RRP range (as of May 2026) spans from budget choices like the Telefunken 10kg/6kg at $799, up to high-capacity, higher cost models like the Electrolux 900 Series at $2,249. The dollar symbols in the key stats and comparison table indicate where each model sits on the price scale in relation to the other models on this list, from lower cost ($$$ - under $1,000) to medium ($$$ - $1000-$1,500) and higher ($$$ - over $1,500).

“I got sick of having washing lines inside on wet days/weeks and so when my washing machine died, I thought this was a good time to invest in a washer/dryer combo. This has been great. I've been really happy with the machine so far, and no more washing inside for me.” - Lil1111, February 2025
