Haven’t used this insert yet, but it is quality made and very useful. You just put this on top of the main dish you are cooking, and can cook the rice, or potatoes or any accompaniment inside to cook at the same time as the main dish beneath. I don’t think it’s limited to the side dish, but that’s what I will use it for. The stainless steel tripod supports the insert, holding it above the food and liquid below. My German husband grew up using this in Germany, and speaks highly of the product.
