You’ve probably heard of the Australian entertainment streaming service Hubbl, owned by Foxtel, but did you know you can also buy Hubbl brand TVs?

This dual approach aims to make browsing and choosing which show or movie to watch a whole lot simpler. With an intuitive user interface similar to Google TV, Hubbl Glass TVs are designed to allow easy access to the content of multiple streaming platforms in one place, as well as traditional free to air TV.

Launched in 2024, Hubbl Glass TVs are a new addition to the Australian TV market. While they share a lot of specs with other leading brands, they have a couple of unique features too.

Display

Hubbl Glass TVs come in two sizes: 55 inch and 65 inch. They have 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) and QLED display technology, both of which have become something of a standard in today’s TVs.

Hubbl TVs can process and display content in HDR formats such as Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, which is most often used for sports and live TV broadcasts. An ambient light sensor with IR filtering helps optimise viewing by adjusting screen brightness based on the light in the room.

A built-in soundbar means you don't need to buy an additional speaker

Sound

Hubbl Glass TVs also come equipped with a built-in Dolby Atmos® soundbar that includes five acoustically engineered speakers that project sound upward and outward, and a subwoofer. For a lot of TVs, you’d need to buy a separate soundbar to achieve a similar sound quality - so it’s worth factoring this in when considering the cost of the TV.

Gaming

Although the 60Hz refresh rate isn’t as high as the 120Hz+ rate that serious gamers prefer, Hubbl Glass TVs do have a game mode that’s automatically enabled when a gaming console is attached via HDMI cable. This mode ensures that movements from the gaming controller register instantly on-screen, doing away with complaints (and excuses) about lag times.

Design

One of the standout design elements of Hubbl Glass TVs is their coloured bases and frames. The five options of Ocean Blue, Dusky Pink, Racing Green, Ceramic White and Anthracite Black are a refreshing change in a TV landscape of monochrome frames as far as the eye can see.

A little reminiscent of the iconic Apple iMacs of the ‘90s, this touch of personality means you can choose a colour to complement the décor of the room your TV is in.

Hubbl streaming platform

The Hubbl platform itself is a streaming aggregator, bringing together content from multiple services you have subscriptions to into a single interface. Essentially, it does away with the need to switch between paid services like Stan, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Foxtel Now, Optus Sport and Apple TV, as well as free ones like ABC iView and SBS On Demand. It also enables discounts when you ‘stack’ Kayo Sports, Binge, Flash, Netflix and Lifestyle streaming apps and manage them through your Hubbl account.

Using the Hubbl platform on a Hubbl Glass vs different brand TV

The Hubbl platform is built into the Hubbl Glass TV, but if you have a different telly you can still use Hubbl through the Hubbl Hub, a small device costing around $99 that connects to any TV via an HDMI port. With either option, there’s no ongoing cost to use the Hubbl platform.

In terms of user experience and functionality, using the Hubbl streaming platform on Hubbl Glass TVs is pretty similar to using it on a different brand TV via the Hubbl Hub plug-in. However, there are a couple of differences:

Performance and integration: Hubbl Glass TVs are built to run Hubbl natively, ensuring smooth performance, optimised display settings, and built-in voice control. In contrast, the Hubbl Hub relies on the connected TV’s HDMI input and hardware, meaning the experience may vary depending on the TV’s specifications. That’s to say - your Hubbl experience will only be as good as the TV you’re using!
Flexibility: A Hubbl Hub gives you the freedom to use Hubbl on any TV, while a Hubbl Glass TV is a complete all-in-one option. If you used the Hub and found it invaluable, you might want to think about going all in with the Hubbl Glass TV when it’s time to get a new telly.
