Christmas shopping inspo for Black Friday

Because even Santa needs to shop savvy.

Recent years have seen a shift in Christmas shopping habits in Australia, with more people getting wise to the fact that Black Friday sales are just a few weeks out from the gift-giving season.

Along with the End of Financial Year sales in June, Black Friday has some of the biggest discounts you’ll find all year on everything from microwaves and TVs to fashion and skincare. If you can be organised enough to draw up a gift list by the end of November you can make some huge savings on your Christmas shopping.

The other benefit is that you can avoid the stressful last-minute rush around the shops, convincing yourself that your mum would love that 50 Jams of the World gift pack and your brother-in-law will find that novelty golf ball mug hilarious.

When do Black Friday sales start?

Black Friday is on the last Friday in November, which is the 29th in 2024, but these days the sales event isn’t restricted to just one day. A lot of retailers will have early Black Friday sales for a week or more beforehand and may stretch them through to the following Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday is the online shopping event created to be the internet's answer to Black Friday, which was originally an in-store bricks and mortar event. These days, those distinctions have blurred.

Appliances Online’s Black Friday Sale has amazing value deals on home appliance essentials like washing machines, dryers, fridges and dishwashers, but it also has a lot of products that make great Christmas gifts, from coffee machines and air fryers to homewares and haircare gadgets. And remember, Appliances Online has free delivery to 95% of Australians, usually by the next day if the item you’ve chosen is in stock.

Gifts to look out for this Black Friday

We’ve already looked at getting the best Black Friday deals on kitchen appliances for the foodies in your life, so here are some other gift ideas to add to your Christmas shopping list.

1. Sizzling snags on the go, with a portable BBQ

A portable BBQ can be a great Christmas gift, arriving just in time for summer picnics, beach days and backyard get-togethers. Gas BBQs heat up quickly and are easy to control, while charcoal gives you that classic smoky flavour.

Whether you choose a lightweight, easy-to-transport gas or charcoal model from brands like Weber, Beefeater, and Napoleon, a portable BBQ is guaranteed to be a hit with its lucky recipient.

2. Pumping parties, with a portable speaker

Bluetooth speakers are a must-have for outdoor entertainment, perfect for summer picnics, camping trips, and pool parties. Most models are designed to be rugged and waterproof, able to handle everything from drops of rain to being dropped in the pool.

With up to 30 hours battery life, you can rely on fully charged speakers to well and truly outlast your Christmas picnic or New Year’s Eve party in the park and still be pumping out the tunes come breakfast time.

3. A perfect picture, with a stunning 4K TV

Most TVs now have 4K resolution, so even the cheapest models have really sharp, clear pictures. If you’re shopping for someone very special and you want to go premium, QLED and OLED TVs have exceptional contrast and vibrant colours.

For something unique, Samsung’s The Frame doubles as a stylish piece of wall art in standby mode. Unlike standard TV screensavers, it’s designed to look like a real picture frame and can display a huge variety of beautifully rendered artworks.

4. No more knots, with a massager

Everyone loves a massage. From Hyperice massage guns that target specific muscles to seat cover massagers for full-back relaxation, a massage device is always a well-received gift.

Handheld massagers can focus on the neck and shoulders, while foot massagers and wearable devices for arms, legs, and ankles can improve circulation and ease tension. Perfect for helping Uncle Bob fall into his after-lunch slumber on Christmas day.

5. A healthy New Year, with fitness gear

If your loved one has been talking up a good game about their New Year fitness resolutions, get the ball rolling with some free weights, medicine balls or a Reebok step.

If they have the space and you have the budget, larger cardio fitness equipment like treadmills, exercise bikes, and rowing machines could be the way to go, though perhaps a little harder to fit beneath the Christmas tree.

6. Hair care for everywhere!

From hair straighteners and advanced hair dryers to hair straightening brushes that combine the benefits of both, hair styling tools can be a good gift for loved ones with long locks, while an electric shaver could be just what Dad needs to sharpen his look.

Multi-groomers come with attachments for face, head, and body grooming, making them versatile tools for trimming, shaving, and detailing.

If you need to do better than last year with your festive gift-giving and want to save some money while you’re at it, Black Friday’s the perfect time to do so. Add some of these gift options to your Appliances Online Wishlist and then see if the price hits the sweet spot during the sales period.
