Who doesn’t love the Sixties?  It brought us counterculture, the space race, timeless music and movies, and this guy:

There’s also the classic design of the Sixties kitchen.  Expanding upon the appliances put to use by the “Modern Housewife” of the postwar Fifties (a familiar figure from vintage fridge ads), Sixties appliances aimed to be stylish as well as practical, to better fit into the ultramodern Sixties home.

To help give your kitchen a bit more of a retro feel, Morphy Richards has released the Elipta range of kettles and toasters, which combine Sixties-style design and colouration with features providing contemporary convenience.

With colours like Cornflower Blue (seen above), Sage, or Barley, you can give your home a spot of pizzazz, with these natural earth-tones suiting the mood of even the mellowest flower child.

These 1.5L kettles use a rapid-boil concealed element that heats water quickly and is easy to clean.  The retro design is practical as well as attractive, with a 360-degree kettle base allowing more convenient placement and access, and cord storage to keep your kitchen tidy.

A removable lime scale filter keeps your drinks free from grots, the illuminated water gauge shows the water level at a glance, and a fail-safe cut out to turn off the heat when the kettle is empty.

As for the toasters, their pastel colours are accented with sharp chrome, complementing their design to better suit more kitchens, and giving them a cool modern edge.

In addition to variable toasting settings, there is a Frozen Bread setting so you don’t have to wait for your bread to defrost before it can be toasted – ideal for households wanting to buy in bulk.  There’s also a Cancel & Reheat button for warming up those overlooked slices of toast that are sometimes allowed to go cold, without burning them.

Mark joined Appliances Online in November 2011 and has since learned more than he ever expected to know about appliances. He enjoys looking for new and unusual ways for to solve everyday problems using typical household appliances. When he’s not toiling at the desks of Appliances Online and Big Brown Box, he tries to find time to write the next big bestseller and draw satirical cartoons, but is too easily distracted by TV, music and video games. Mark’s favourite appliance is the Dyson Groom Tool, as he loves the concept of vacuuming your dog. Google+
