miele-logoJust as winter begins to set in, competition for top billing in the cooking appliance market seems to be heating up.

A new study released this week has ranked the ovens offered by the top ten international brands.

Customer satisfaction research and ratings business Canstar Blue presented the inaugural Most Satisfied Customers Award for ovens to Miele.

The German manufacture topped the ratings in five of the seven key criteria, including reliability, ease of use and ease of cleaning.

Six further brands, Samsung, Bosch, Electrolux, Chef, Westinghouse and Whirlpool, scored four-star ratings overall. Fisher & Paykel, Smeg, Blanco and Euromaid received three stars.

The report described an oven purchase as a “significant investment for homeowners”, and noted the average spend on an oven was $981. It added that in some states, this cost rose to well over $1k.

Bosch came second in the Canstar Oven Awards.

A statement from Canstar Blue said: “The average age of Australian’s ovens is twelve years – likely to outlive any of your other appliances.

“It’s obvious from this that an oven should be good value for money, easy to use and – among other things – reliable.

“When we asked people why they replaced their oven, more than a third of our respondents reported their previous model had broken down.”

More than 1,200 Australians were surveyed for the report, although the authors noted not all brands available in the market were compared.

The review comes on the back of our story last week describing the influence market research has on consumer behaviour.
