    Overview

Induction cooktops provide near-instant heating, making them faster and more efficient than conventional electric or gas stoves. Also, because there are no flames, induction cooking reduces the chance of accidents in the kitchen. Additionally, this cooktop will not produce heat unless a metal pot or pan is placed on the element, which again increases safety.

The Westinghouse WHI644BA cooktop's surface is made up of a single smooth piece of easy to clean ceramic glass, with four cooking zones available in different sizes to suit a variety of dishes. If you’re looking for a stylish cooktop, that is fast and reliable, but also safe to use and easy to operate, look no further than this induction cooktop by Westinghouse.

    Unhappy customer
Had the cooktop installed during renovations and started using it late September 2018. By mid 2020 it was shutting down during cooking which I figured was it’s ‘cooking sensor’. It finally stopped working in October 2021 with an error code of ‘E’. Turns out that it will cost almost as much a new cooktop to repair it and then no guarantee that the problem will be fixed. I am really upset about this and disappointed about the short lifetime of the cooktop.

    Love it.
Never thought i would say it. Ever... But here goes, "Better than gas." Put in new built home as went all eletric with solar. One less service fee with no gas bill. Friends had said how good induction was and i didnt believe until now. Been using for 3 months, love the boost feature. Easy clean too. Very impressed. Just make sure you use correct pots. I knew about this and have had no issues.

Simple to use and very responsive
This is the first time I’ve used induction cooking and very impressed. Very responsive to temperature control and liquids come to the boil very quickly.

    Questions & answers

I have a gas cook top which I am not happy with, wanting an induction and looking at the Westinghouse WHI644BA. What is involved in disconnecting current top and connecting induction, also an estimated cost would be nice. With thanks Annelise Anelise · 2017-11-15
Yes you are able to change from gas to electric " Induction" cooktop, first, Select a model that you are interested in, then I would look at the cutout required for the new cooktop compared with your current cooktop, as the cutout requirements are all different nothing is standard, then have an electrician provide a costing on running a separate electrical line from your powerboard outside to where the cooktop will be installed, your cooktop must be on its own circuit, your current electrical power to you gas cooktop will not be suitable. "Upgrade power required". Also, a gas technician is required to disconnect the current gas cooktop as the electrician is unable to provide that type of service. Best to contact a couple of tradespeople in your area who could provide you with a quote for that type service. colin.jones, Appliances Online
If this is an induction cook top why is there residual heat?  I thought the point was only the cookware heated and the cooking surface did not. perplexed · 2015-11-16
You are correct, induction cooktops heat the cookware not the surface, however because of the heat created in the pan, some heat is transferred back from the metal base of the cookware to the glass cooking surface. Although there is much less residual heat, there is still an indicator on most induction cooktops, so you can safely tell the surface was recently used.
