This was supposed to last a lifetime, but it is making loud machine noises after only a few years. The only thing I ever blend is drinks, so there is no reason for it to be going bad now. I also hate that the container is plastic. It looks all scratched and ugly, and I'm sure there are microplastics in my food. I've stopped using it. I don't know why VitaMix does not sell a glass pitcher for their blender. This was awfully expensive for it to be breaking down already and for it to have plastic.

We bought one 7 years ago and still it blends like new. Why am I reviewing it now? I was buying another one for my son and came across the reviews and thought I would chime in. My only complaint would be to make it a bit more dummy proof. You can accidental leave it on high and if you turn it on with the top off everything in the blender will be on the ceiling - or your face depending on where you are standing when you flip the switch. Yes, it happened once to us (not me I am glad to say) and it took hours to clean up and we actually laughed the entire time - and we have 12 foot ceilings!!! I wish I had a photo to share so everyone could share the laughs.

the personal cup adapter is awful! If I could give this 0 stars I would. Buy a magic bullet instead 1) The shape of the container itself (tapering smaller as it gets to the top side when blending) means the cyclonic action that cycles contents around to liquify everything does not function well. You have to be really careful how you layer ingredients, or you'll find yourself taking everything apart and using a utensil to manually mix the contents before putting it back together. 2) the same shape issue means it is very difficult to clean. It's so small at the one side that you can't effectively get a cloth or scrub brush in there. If you ever let contents dry by accident, it's a nightmare to clean out. 3) the sealing system is terrible. It leaks if you don't screw the top of tight enough, and it leaks if you screw it too tight and the gasket flares out as a result. There is a small window of tightness you have to get just right or it will leak. I have never had a blender with leaking problems, and I have to check, carefully, every time I tighten this lid that it's just right and won't leak. 4) Adding the walls around the side makes no sense at all. I can't see any function they serve other than making it more difficult to clean. 5) the top little part of the lid you open to drink out of, at least on one of my two blender cups, is so tight that it takes two hands and some purposeful force to open. My wife has to actually hand me the container sometimes to just get the thing open.
