I am very disappointed in my dry grains container. I've had my Vitamix for 3 years and have loved it, so I recently purchased the dry container because I wanted to make my own flours. I tried to grind wheat berries and could just not get a fine powder, so I thought maybe it was not made for that purpose, even though it is advertised as a DRY GRAINS container. However, today I attempted to grind oatmeal into a fine powder and, after stirring and grinding 3 times it was still very grainy. My smooth cake batter is NOT smooth at all. I had better results when using my original container. I feel like the grain container is a waste of my money. So unfortunate.

I wish I liked it more. I returned it. I wanted to use it for grinding oats. Turns out the 64 oz wet container worked much quicker and effective. The coffee grounds also did not turn out favorably. Love my Vitamix, but my other tools do a better job than the dry container did for my personal needs!

I purchased the dry grains container with the hopes of being able to grind my own keto flour - flax meal, almond flour, coconut flour, ect. I previously was using the Ninja personal cup 1500w to grind flours, which actually worked fairly well for small amounts, but it would be a fine line not to start making butter at the base while blending. With the way the Vitamix blades were supposed to throw the grains up, rather than sucking them in, I had hoped it would work better for keto flours. Unfortunately, I find I get an even poorer grind with this vitamix container than I did with my Ninja. Grains pool in the corners without being spun into the "vortex", and large portions of flax/coconut remain completely unground. Much stopping, shaking, and digging is required to get anything fine enough for flour. Large portions go to butter on the bottom regardless. This is when filling the container slightly less than 1/2 full, so it is well covering the blades, but not overloading. As far as grains go- both wheat and gluten free type grains- it seems to work well, grinding everything into a nice flour. But even my Ninja did that without issue...:S In conclusion, I am disappointed because the dry container dismally failed in the one purpose for which I actually purchased it. What it IS able to do, is not particularly better than any other high powered blender. The Vitamix blender is a marvelous machine, but I would not say it is good value to purchase a Vitamix with the primary purpose of grinding grains.
