    Overview

    Take surveillance outdoors with the Swann Portable Photo and Video Recorder, ideal for nature-lovers or to monitor areas of your property that may not be connected to a central network, like a farm or other outback area. Constructed to survive tough conditions, the OutbackCam is water resistant and can even function in temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees.

    A wide-angle camera and up to 15 metres day/night vision give you the best chance to capture the footage you seek. Thanks to motion sensing technology, the 12 megapixel camera can capture thousands of photos or hundreds of videos, whenever activity is detected. All this is powered by AA batteries for long lasting operation.

    Making use of an infrared filter, this camera continues monitoring your home even in complete darkness.

    Water Resistant

    The water-resistant design of this device will protect it against minor splashes and moisture. Whether you’re caught in the rain or at the beach, this device can hold up well against a bit of water. Just don’t submerge it.

    Motion Sensing

    To conserve battery and to only pick up the important things, this unit comes with motion sensing technology. If it detects movement in its surveillance radius, it can start recording and/or send an alert to your chosen device. Ideal for keeping you in the loop about what is happening on your property at all times.

    MicroSD Recording

    A slot for MicroSD cards is available on this unit, which you can utilise to record high-quality video and audio. This provides you not only with a high-capacity storage option, but also allows the viewing of footage on a laptop or desktop computer.

    Failed on setup
    Despite the high quality appearance of manufacture and construction, the OutbackCam OBC140 failed within five minutes of installing the batteries. I did not even make it through the basic setup process. I am working with Swann via their support team for a replacement. The Swann team have been helpful however the circumstances are very disappointing. I hope I can write a better review once I have a unit that works.

    Takes Experience to Get Good Results
    I bought this to monitor the Goodnature rat trap failings, and it's very useful. I check it daily and tweak the installation to get the results I want. Trap to camera distance is 1.8m and the LEDs are a bit too bright for the subject. I'll experiment with neutral density filter, but of course it may be transparent to IR light. Perhaps Swann could find a way to reduce light output further. Another modification I'd recommend is to move the power connector away from the tripod support screw. I use a car starter battery pack which will power the camera for months, but I had to modify the stand to use them together. Other than that it's great.

    Delighted with results, can see our hedgehog at work!
    Very pleased with this purchase, took a couple of attempts to get configuration that works for us. We were wanting to see if hedgehogs were in the garden overnight, best set up was on a mini tripod on the ground about 3M away from the feeding bowl using the 19led setting and with all the other patio lighting switched off. For such a small animal I set the pir sensitivity to high,resolution to max and bingo, by the morning we had 1100 still photos! The time and date tracking is great as you can see the time spent feeding on each visit and who else appeared which included cats and birds who arrived at dawn as the camera changed to the colour daylight mode.
