I have had this kettle now for going on 4 years and love it. I have never had any issues with it or the plastic hinge. My only comment to Sunbeam would be the words telling you what temp. for what wears off after a while so you forget what is what! Apart from that it has been a great kettle. Putting this one up the coast in our apartment and just about to buy my new one!

I love the idea of this kettle, and while working it’s got great features. The variable temp setting is super useful- I’ve used it to water to the right temp for making bread, and I really liked the extended boil time for baby formula etc. However, the built quality is extremely poor for the price. We were fortunate enough to have sunbeam replace our first one just out of warranty when the temp sensor started to play up causing constant beeping and stopping the unit from turning off once boiled. The second kettle is now doing the same thing. This time though, the mechanism to open the lid has also failed and we also have to pry it open with a knife. For such an expensive kettle, it should last much much longer. A terrible waste that will end up in landfill!

On my 2nd one now after 1st one having a faulty lid, 2nd one now the same problem, also not always recognising heating base and now the handle is coming away from the kette at the top. For the price tag you would expect a bit of longevity. Could be great, but even if it was half the price it still wouldn't be a good buy. I'm happy to pay more for something that is made well and lasts. Disappointed
