The SONY MDR-RF4000K Music and Movie headphones are a life saver within my household. From their elegant and comfortable design, to their practicality, and effortlessly brilliant reproduction of sound, they are an “all ‘round” performer. Due to my love of music and movies at pretty much any time of the day or night, I was gifted these beauties for my birthday so that I could experience my love for high quality sound without disturbing the rest of the family if I so choose to watch/listen to something when I should be asleep. The headphones have 3 main parts, the AC adapter, the dock/charging station, and of course the headphones themselves. As a result for them to function they require 240v available. Being a wireless design, simply plug the dock into the wall, and it’s headphone jack into your choice of music creation, and away you go. Move or sit freely without the constraints of wires. The plugin power fact alone shows their true purpose. They were not made for rocking down to the shops… They were made for the audiophile who sits at home or who wishes to walk freely about their home and enjoy high quality sound for extended periods of time. The headphones themselves are a closed back design which ensures that they act as a silencer to most sounds, ensuring that you are able to concentrate on the sound that they are delivering. With a relatively large frequency range of 12 - 22000Hz, they cover subsonic sound right up to and beyond what your ears can actually hear. What does this mean? Essentially you don't miss a thing. With infinitely clear treble and deep yet accurate base, they give a beautiful and true sound. Sound accuracy is something audiophiles will appreciate, without over emphasis on base or any particular Hz range. I have found that even through several walls and with many wireless band streams for my local area network, that there has been zero interference with the signal, it has remained clear and error free. The wireless range has been used from the dock inside to me being out of my house (thus through walls) in the order of 20-25metres before any degradation in performance was heard. Essentially anywhere within my house, I get full quality and uninterrupted sound delivery. The design is smart and elegant. The headset is comfortable and designed to be able to be worn for long periods of time. Traditionally closed back headphones can lead to your erasing quite warm, when in the “Over ear” design as these are, but I have found during long multi hour sessions that I have never had discomfort or over heating. Another plus that I have noticed is the battery life.. at no point have I ever run out of battery. As a result I have no idea whether there is some sort of alerting to let you know, but in my experience, I have given out long before the headphones attempted to. The dock/charging station is also an elegant design, and when docked the headphones give a sophisticated appearance that would fit in anywhere from a bedroom, right through to an ultra exclusive apartment. I am thoroughly happy with these headphones. In every regard they meet and exceed my expectations. As long as the purchaser takes in mind the very reason that these were defined, to deliver high quality sound in an environment with a constant supply of power, I am sure anyone will be happy.

I've tried pretty much every version of wireless headphone types, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RF etc. These are the first wireless headphones I haven't experienced some sort of interference with. These are 2.5GHz Wi-Fi but I've got another brands version of 2.5GHz wireless headphones and they suffer horrible interference whenever my printer and blu-ray player access my network. Which makes using them impossible while using the blu-ray player. That's a problem and the reason I went looking for other wireless headphones, so I could watch movies while other people sleep. These definitely don't! I was nervous about getting another set of 2.5GHz headphones but I'm very happy I did. Besides, if I had interference problems when I got home, I could just take these ones back. Needless to say, almost six months later I still have them and use them almost every day. I've tried very hard to find a fault with these, they look a little funny but work brilliantly and are very comfortable to wear for a few hours at a time. The batteries have never gone dead on me but it would be nice of they could be used as regular wired headphones. I can't think of anything else I don't like about them! It's also a nice to have the option to stick them in a draw too if you don't want them on display. Mine sit quite happily behind my T.V. Very, very happy with these. Great value when compared to similar headphones and they work great with no interference at all in my very heavily radio contested neighbourhood.

I've used Sony's other infrared cordless headphones for many years now but recently needed to upgrade. I chose this new digital cordless set because I read that all the analogue or FM cordless ones gave terrible sound quality and hissing etc. I'm pleased to say that these digital ones are perfect, great sound, no hiss, no static. They just work right out of the box and are clear and perfect as you would expect a digital set to be. Great bass response too which is hard to get in headphones sometimes. The only con is that the ear pads are huge and for that matter so is the whole headphone so you end up looking a bit strange wearing them around the house, but it's worth it for the good sound and range they give. I actually liked this product so much that I have purchased two sets, one for my TV room and one for my home office area.
