Excellent Blu-Ray player, Rubbish Media streamer
I've owned several media streamers from no name, fly by night companies to brand name household staples. None and I mean NONE can get it absolutely right in the way a HTPC can.
This unit is pretty good in the variety of files it can play, but the long and convoluted way you have to navigate the menu's to get the file from your networked storage or PC is painful.
And what is it with using a 10/100 NIC people.?? with the size of video files and the NBN around the corner it just lags... It has Wireless N why not a gigabit NIC.??
So to watch a movie from networked storage goes like this.. Scroll along the various options (Network / Photo / Music / Video & SEN# Select video, then your DNLA computer or storage, then you have a choice of photo, music, video ect again.. choose anything other than video and you get an error of a non supported file, so back you go to the start.!! WTF.!!! would it be so incomprehensible to have the menu selection go Options, select Device #PC or Storage#, Folder #Music, Photo or Video#, select and play file.??
Don't get me wrong it's a good device, a lot cheaper than a PS3 and it does a great job of playing Blu-Ray's and DVD's, But for a media streamer the software engineer's need a swift uppercut and sent out into the real world where there technology phobia partner states it all too hard and it collects dust in the corner. #Thanks Sony, Samsung, Phillips, Toshiba, ect)
As the boss isn't happy, I'm repacking this and taking it back to the shop.
Remember happy wife, happy life.!!
