My first OLED - an admirable OLED
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this TV at a discount for my honest review. This is my first OLED TV, so my review is a naïve OLED one. The first thing that struck me out of the box is how thin the top half of the TV is. The bottom half houses the electronics and mounting points so it’s thicker. It has a beautiful look with a thin black border all the way around. The detailed specs are found on LG’s website. Key features – 4k Ultra HD, a7 Gen4 AI Processor, 120hz native, Cinema HDR, optimized for gaming, webOS, 4 HDMI inputs, and more. I have a 5.1 system so I will never use the built-in speakers and will not comment on that aspect. As with other LG products it comes with a magic remote which I find super easy to navigate with. It’s much lighter than I was expecting, 53lbs without the stand. Sources are plugged directly into the TV (HDMI), no pass-through receiver. The TV is in my bedroom, a room where TV is watched a lot. I tested the TV in a variety of ways with the settings as they were out of the box. The room is generally a darker room, so I didn’t test it in a bright room other than having the lights on. I watched various content from my Fios One box, from football to the news to baseball to several movies. Then I went to content from the TV itself. The three apps I used were Disney+, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. In all cases I watched movies. I discount content quality from the Fios box because I feel the signal isn’t the best. The picture from Fios was better than most of my other TV’s. I didn’t notice any blurred motion, and the picture was sharp. I Watched baseball in 4K and it looked great. The apps were better as expected. Very clear with zero motion blur. Much more 4K content to test, and I was impressed. I have a 75” LG QNED99 mini-LED TV and although different technologies I found myself comparing. I read that OLED doesn’t get as bright, and that was evident out of the box. I ended up spending an hour going through all the picture settings making many tweaks to get the best picture I could. It was a pretty big improvement. With regards to brightness and more importantly color the QNED was deeper and brighter than the OLED, but the OLED still had beautiful and natural colors. The blacks are deep. When the lights are off the OLED is at its best. I've watched quite a bit of 4K sports and this TV shows it well. I find this TV to be an economical yet quality entry into the OLED world. I am very happy with its performance and would easily recommend this TV.

    Not built to last
I purchased this nearly two years ago and the motherboard has already failed. The television will turn itself off every minute or so. To LGs credit, they are repairing at no cost to me this time.

I purchased an OLED a few years ago and have burn in and discoloration on the center of the screen.  Do your new OLED televisions still do this? Scott924 · 2022-01-26
I have had an LG Curved OLED 1080p Smart TV - 55'' Class (54.6'' Diag), Model # 55EG9100 since 2015 that my children have played their Xbox and PlayStation games on and it has never developed any sign or image retention or burn-in at all in all those years. Burn-in and image retention are possible on virtually any display. However, with an LG OLED TV, any risk of burn-in or image retention have been addressed through the use of technology that not only helps protect against damage to the screen, but features self-healing properties so that any short-term image retention that may occur is quickly rectified. It is rare for an average TV consumer to create an environment that could result in burn-in. Most cases of burn-in in televisions is a result of static images or on-screen elements displaying on the screen uninterrupted for many hours or days at a time – with brightness typically at peak levels. So, it is possible to create image retention in almost any display if one really tries hard enough. And even if image retention does occur from extreme usage, it can usually be mitigated within a short period of time by turning the display off for a while, and watching a few hours of varying content (such as your standard TV watching and channel-surfing). Additionally, LG OLED TVs come with special features and settings to preserve image quality and prevent burn-in and image retention. First, there is a Screen Saver feature that will turn on automatically if the TV detects that a static image is displayed on screen after approximately two minutes. There are also three options (available in Menu setting > Picture settings > OLED panel settings) that can be used to preserve image quality. Our new 2022 models have not been released yet and they will not be out until near the end of the first quarter of the year or little later. We unveiled and showcased our new 2022 models recently at CES (Jan 5, 2022 – Jan 7, 2022) with the G2 being our brightest OLED TV yet, able to achieve a brightness increase of about 20% compared to the C2. The panel uses a new heat dissipation technology. Both the C2 and the G2 will have the evo panel, but the C2 will not be as bright as the G2...^Ivan LGAnswers_Ivan, Appliances Online
