About Kelvinator

It’s a slogan you first encountered while watching TV as a kid: "Australians love a Kelvinator." The technology has changed over the years, but the promise of quality and simple usability hasn’t budged. Kelvinator appliances are made for Australian conditions – for slaying the summer swelter and for warding off the winter chill.

Kelvinator was founded in 1914 by engineer Nathaniel B. Wales in Detroit, Michigan. The name was derived from Lord Kelvin, the physicist responsible for the concept of absolute zero. Wales’ dream was a practical electric refrigeration unit for the home, which would outperform the vapour-compression units and iceboxes that were popular at the time.

By 1926, Kelvinator fridges were being imported to Australia. It was around this time that the company was establishing a reputation as innovators in their field. The fridges you use today in your home and workplace rely on technology that was instituted by Kelvinator. The first two-door refrigerator? That was Kelvinator. The first fridge with any sort of automatic control? You guessed it: Kelvinator.

Today, Kelvinator is proud to belong to the Electrolux group of appliances. Catering to families all around the country, and to homes of all sizes, a Kelvinator fridge or air-conditioner will help you to combat the elements.
