Every journey begins with a single step, and for JBL and founder, James B. Lansing, that first step was taken on October 1st 1946. Fast-forward to 1954; JBL is introducing the 375 high-frequency compression driver, the first commercially available four inch diaphragm driver.
JBL was then acquired by Harmon Professional in 1969, initiating a period of rapid international growth that saw JBL become a name synonymous with quality. The new JBL quickly proved they were a major player in audio, with the development and distribution of the 4311, a powerful Control Monitor. It was this same 4311 that got ranked first in a Billboard survey of the US recording industry.
JBL was, and still is, renowned for their innovative spirit and attention to detail, and if they don’t have a tool to execute their vision, they create one. The enterprising spirit of JBL is perfectly encapsulated with the creation of the Differential Drive, a dual voice-coil, dual magnetic gap design that reduces driver weight while enhancing performance. The use of Neodymium magnets replaced pounds of magnetic material with mere ounces. As a result, the Differential Drive was lighter and much more powerful.
The same Differential Drive was included in the M2 Master Reference Monitor, debuting in 2012, with its Revolutionary Image Control Waveguide. In fact, the M2 incorporates many of JBL’s patents within its interior, delivering incredible audio performance.
JBL stands at the head of over 70 years of experience, still seeking to elevate what is auditorily possible, and they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.
