About

The Dometic story

Greatness can begin with a single idea, an idea that changes the world. For Carl Munters and Baltzar von Platen, two Swedish engineering students, this idea led to the creation of the very first refrigerator. Convinced that the best way to create a cooling effect was to use heat, Munters and Baltzar developed a cooling unit which distributed a cooling agent throughout the system when the boiler was heated. This absorbed internal heat, leaving a cooling effect in its place. Granted a patent in 1923, this idea was so revolutionary it was called a stroke of genius by Albert Einstein.

In 1925, the manufacturing rights are acquired by growing appliance company Electrolux, who end up distributing millions of refrigerator units in the years following World War II. Beginning in the 1950s, bolstered by a sales boom, Electrolux begins to map a new frontier into the burgeoning leisure market. By the end of the 1960s, Electrolux gave their leisure division a name:

Dometic.

Fast forward to 2015 and Dometic is now a public company standing on their own and invigorated by a simple core tenet, ‘mobile living made easy’. Millions of people all over the world buy and use Dometic products, driven by a desire for freedom, exploration, and adventure.

Dometic is propelled by a view that it should be easy to live comfortably even if you’re living far from civilisation. With products aiding in cooking, keeping food fresh, maintaining pleasant temperatures, and more, Dometic constantly innovates to help keep you on the move.
