Which Front Loader Washing Machines Have The Longest Warranties?

If you’re shopping for a new washing machine, you’ll find that you have a wide range of brands to choose from in Australia. Appliances Online sells over 100 different models from more than 20 brands, all of varying capacities, energy and water efficiencies, and capabilities.

Over 80% of these front load washers have a two-year manufacturer’s warranty from the date of purchase- a standard duration for a laundry appliance.

A handful of brands, however, provide longer warranties for their washing machines - some of them significantly so. While a shorter warranty doesn’t mean that the product will only last for that length of time before experiencing problems, a longer warranty can provide some extra peace of mind when buying a new washing machine.

In this article we take a look at some of the brands offering longer-than-average warranties for front load washing machines.

Front load washing machines with a 10 year warranty

A ten-year warranty on a washer is a scarce thing, but high-end brand V-ZUG offers it on some of its front loader models.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, you’ll pay a higher purchase price for a premium quality Swiss made machine with a decade's warranty, but if you have the budget to spend between $3,000-$7,000, you’ll be able to rest assured that V-ZUG’s got your back.

These 8kg capacity models have 4 Star Water Efficiency and up to 5.5 Star Energy Ratings, making them considerably cheaper to run over the following ten years than comparably sized lower rated models.

Front load washing machines with a 5 year warranty

As we move into the category of washers with a five-year warranty, the number of brands and models increases, and the price range spans both higher and average-priced machines.

In addition to its machines with ten-year warranties, premium Swiss brand V-ZUG has 8kg capacity models with 5-year warranties that are priced upwards of $5,000.

In the same price bracket are higher capacity 10kg front loaders from American brand Speed Queen, which is renowned for the commercial quality and durability of its laundry appliances (it makes a lot of commercial laundry appliances as well). A washer from this American brand will likely cost you between $4,0000-$6,000.

If that’s beyond your budget, fear not, because if you’re looking for a five-year warranty but want to spend around $1,000 or less, there are some options in this lower price range too. Whirlpool, for example, has 7kg and 8kg capacity washing machines at this price point, while Hoover has a smaller capacity 6kg model at under $800.

Front load washing machines with a 3 year warranty

For front loaders with a 3-year warranty, the number of models and brands increases. This is good news if you’re buying on a budget, because a lot of machines with three-year warranties have RRPs between $400 and $1000 (and are often priced lower than that at Appliances Online).

Hisense has machines with capacities ranging from 7.5kg to a family sized 10kg, all priced at well under $1,000 and with 3-year warranties. Brands including CHiQ and TCL also have 7.5kg and 8.5kg models with 3-year warranties in the lower price range, and Onix has 6kg and 8kg front loaders with RRPs under $500.

What is the manufacturer's warranty?

A manufacturer's warranty is a pledge from the manufacturer to stand by their product. In Australia, the duration for front load washing machine warranties varies, but in most cases is two years.

Warranties are indicative of the manufacturer's belief in the quality of it's product. A longer warranty, therefore, may be reflective of the brand’s confidence in the durability, technological advancements, build materials, and good design of the machine.

What does a manufacturer’s warranty cover?

Typically, a front load washing machine warranty covers parts and workmanship, i.e. if there are defects related to how the appliance was constructed or assembled, the warranty would cover the repair or replacement of those components. Spare parts, major failures, and issues arising from a lack of conformity with the Australian Consumer Law are often included. It’s important to note, though, that general wear and tear, misuse, or problems arising as a result of not following the manufacturer's instructions, might not be covered.

What is an extended warranty?

An extended warranty, known by a range of names depending on the retailer, is an additional period of cover for your washer. At Appliances Online these are known as Customer Care Plans.

Often offered as an additional protection plan at the time you buy your washing machine, they essentially act as an extension of the manufacturer's warranty terms - though you should read the Terms and Conditions of any plan to make sure it covers what you need.

When you buy an extended warranty, it kicks in once the original manufacturer's warranty expires - so if you bought a 3 Year Extended Warranty at the time of buying a washer that had a standard two years manufacturer’s warranty, you’d end up with five years of cover.

Peace of mind your washer will keep on working

A longer warranty on a front load washer doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a better-made machine than one with a standard two-year warranty - but if you were deliberating between a couple of otherwise similar options and one had a longer warranty, it could be the deciding factor.
