Is Bosch the best vacuum cleaner?

Vacuums & Floor Care

Yesterday the Appliances Online team got up close and personal with the new range of vacuum cleaners from Bosch. After the demonstration, we all walked away impressed by how light, quiet, and robust these powerful little vacuums are.

Without being given a manual, we were asked to figure out how to put together and use a Bosch ErgoMaxx vacuum. Despite a rocky start (which looked like a re-enactment the opening scene from 2001 a Space Odyssey), we eventually managed to do it – in under 2 minutes.

We also had a physical demonstration of how tough yet flexible the suction tube is by literally tying it in knots and using it for a friendly game of tug o’ war. Not only did the tube survive these tribulations, it sprung back to its original shape without any bumps, kinks or cracks.

We even got to observe the vacuum’s resilience against being dropped by letting it fall to the ground from waist height – not a scratch. Our demonstrator Andrew explained that all Bosch vacuums are drop tested before they leave the factory to ensure they can stand up to the demands of a busy household.

Other fantastic features included:

Extra-long power cord
The Bosch ErgoMaxx has an operating radius of 13 metres.

AirClean HEPA hygiene filter system
The advanced HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter in this vacuum helps to remove allergens from the air, which is great for people who suffer from allergies or asthma.

Telescopic tubes
You can adjust the length of the vacuuming tube with the adjustable sliding click-in control.

Extra nozzle built-into the main handle
To help vacuum tricky areas, a special ‘4-in-1’ combi accessory is built into the main handle, so it’s always within reach. The combi nozzle features an upholstery brush, a furniture nozzle, and a long crevice nozzle all in one.

360° swivel wheels
The 4 wheels underneath the ErgoMaxx make it possible to pull the vacuum in any direction. Plus they’re covered in rubber to minimise the risk of scratching your floors.

Ergonomic handles
There are two easy-grip handles on the ErgoMaxx so you can carry the vacuum from room to room using both hands. And because it’s so small and lightweight, there is less risk of back strain.

Quiet operation
With three power levels to choose from, you have the option of doing a quick and quiet vacuum on the lowest setting to avoid disturbing anyone who might be sleeping. Especially useful for new parents!

With all of these features you’d probably expect a Bosch vacuum to cost the earth – but they’re much more affordable than you might think. In 2010 the bagged Bosch Pro-Energy vacuum cleaner won the CHOICE Best Buy test. As the magazine put it: “You don’t need to spend a fortune to guarantee top performance”.

So thanks to Andrew was a great presentation, and for getting the floors of our office super clean!
