Seven ways a Panasonic Player/Recorder can change your life
June 2nd, 2014
Blu-ray and DVD players, recorders and PVRs not only allow you to record and play back your entertainment, but their special features bring whole new levels of convenience to your home theatre.
Here are seven of our favourite features of selected Panasonic players and recorders, and what they can do for you:
Twin Tuner
Panasonic DMR-XW390 DVD Disc Recorder 500Gb HDD Twin HD Tuner DMRXW390
The invention of the VCR helped solve the problem two favourite shows being broadcast simultaneously on different channels – simply record one and watch the other.
But what if there’s a third favourite show airing at the same time? Possibly because of a certain international football tournament…?
A Twin Tuner allows you to record from two sources at once while you watch a third – convenient!
It can also be used to pause live TV while you go and answer the phone or check on dinner, and pick it up again right where you left off!
DLNA connectivity
Panasonic DMR-HW220 1TB Twin Tuner Recorder DMR-HW220
Reading through the many acronyms found among the specs of a new AV appliance, have you ever wondered what the letters “DLNA” stand for?
Here’s your answer: the Digital Living Network Alliance is a standard of wireless connectivity for electronic devices.
Put simply, if you have more than one DLNA-certified appliance in your home, these devices can wirelessly connect to each other via your wireless router without hassles.
Don’t worry about finding the right cables or connectors to plug your TV into your DVD player – if they both have DLNA connectivity, they’ll be synced before you know it!
What’s more, having multiple DLNA devices throughout your home can enable multi-room streaming – watch a show stored on the recorder in the living room from the TV in your bedroom, all wirelessly!
Remote recording

Imagine being out and about, then suddenly remembering there’s a TV show on tonight that you wanted to see.
Unfortunately, you forgot to set your PVR to record it, and there’s no time to nip back home to sort it out.
If you’ve registered with Panasonic’s Remote Recording Service, you can access your home theatre’s EPG and recording capabilities at any time from your smartphone or tablet, no matter where you are.
Not only is this handy for recording entertainment while on the go, but it’s great for use at home too – putting control of the recorder in the palm of your hand, you can set one show to record without interrupting the viewing of another.
Quick operation
Panasonic DMR-PWT635GL 3D Blu-Ray Player / Recorder
Compared to the VCRs of yore, which were notoriously difficult to program, modern Blu-ray and DVD players and recorders are easy to start up and use.
Rather than having to wait though an extended boot-up sequence, many players and recorders can be used within a second of powering them on, automatically launching their EPG and Direct Navigator so you can intuitively select the programs you want to watch or record.
Apps to watch on the go
Panasonic DMR-XW440GLK Smart Network DVD Recorder with Twin HD Tuner
Remember how earlier I mentioned that using a Panasonic app, you can remotely record your favourite digital broadcasts?
Well, using the same Panasonic DIGA app, you can not only remotely RECORD your favourite shows, but remotely WATCH this recorded content on your smartphone or tablet as well.
This is great for commuters and the like, who can catch up with their TV viewing while on those long train or bus trips.
4K up-scaling
Panasonic DMR-PWT540GL 3D Blu-ray Disc Player
If you’ve made the effort to future-proof your home theatre by investing in a 4K TV, you may not be getting the most out of its spectacular resolution until 4K content becomes widely available.
Luckily, some premium Blu-ray players and recorders include 4K up-scaling modes, which digitally enhance your media’s picture to a close approximation of 4K quality, allowing you to put your 4K TV through its paces without having to replace your entire movie collection.
Miracast
Panasonic DMR-BWT740 Smart Network 3D Blu-ray Recorder with Twin HD Tuner
We all enjoy a lot of great entertainment on our smartphones and tablets these days, but having all your loved ones glued to their own small screens can seem a bit antisocial.
Using Panasonic’s Miracast function, your smart device’s screen can be “mirrored” on your TV’s big screen, so all of your funny photos, videos and games can be enjoyed by everyone without having to cluster around a small screen.
