Ovens & Cooking

Last Thursday the lucky staff at Appliances Online were treated to ‘breakfast at desk’ thanks to Craige Cole from Whirlpool. Craige was demonstrating Whirlpool’s CRISP plate technology – available in their latest range of microwave ovens.

On the menu was fried eggs, crispy bacon, and golden hash browns – all prepared in a matter of minutes using the Whirlpool VT266 microwave.

Whirlpool’s innovative CRISP plate is like a frypan that sits inside your microwave, creating perfectly crisp, evenly cooked food in a fraction of the time it would take to cook it on the stove. It’s also an incredibly energy efficient method of cooking.

Cooking with the CRISP plate is simple – even Craige’s 83 year old grandmother finds it easy to use. Just pre-heat the plate in the microwave for 2 minutes, place your food on top, then select the Crisp function and set the time.

In our demonstration, it took 3 minutes to cook 5 eggs and 4 minutes to crisp 8 rashers of bacon. And the hash browns went from frozen to sizzling hot (and completely cooked in the middle) in around 5 minutes.

Amazingly, despite cooking up a huge greasy breakfast for the whole office, the inside of the microwave was still remarkably clean at the end.

Another advantage of the Whirlpool VT266SL microwave is that it has a power range of between 90 and 800 watts. The low power setting is perfect for things like defrosting ice-cream or softening butter without actually cooking the food.

Egg and bacon sandwiches – it’s all part of a hard day’s work at Appliances Online. Thanks to Iron Chef Craige for his time and for the tasty nosh!
