Ice cold beer in 5 minutes with a LG Blast Chiller

Fridges & Freezers

There’s nothing better than a cold beer on a hot day, however there’s nothing quite as frustrating as waiting for your beer to get cold.

We all know the trick of putting warm drinks in the freezer to cool down, but this still takes about half an hour, and you run the risk of forgetting about it only to come back to a freezer full of exploded beer.

But no more! Unveiled at CES 2012 was the Blast Chiller – a new feature in LG‘s premium refrigerators which will become available later this year.

LG’s Blast Chiller uses the power of a jet engine (no, really) to blast cans with gusts of icy air which swirls continuously to prevent ice crystals from forming. One can will chill in five minutes, a bottle of wine (or two cans) can be chilled in eight.

Built into LG’s new French-door 877 litre fridge, the Blast Chiller took out the ‘Best of Innovations’ Award at last week’s CES – which was held in Las Vegas and attracted electronics enthusiasts from around the globe – including our roving BigBrownBox.com.au reporter Kevin.

LG was certainly the talking point of the convention, with the jewel in their crown being the brand new 4mm thick 55″ OLED 3D HDTV.

Highlights from CES can be seen on YouTube:

The new range of LG refrigerators with the Blast Chill function will be available at Appliances Online later in the year, but until then you might want to have a peek at this Westinghouse fridge with a drinks chill timer. You could also consider investing in a quality bar fridge to keep your guests happy all summer long.
