IMPORTANT NOTICE: Unfortunately, Fridge Buyback has shut up shop in NSW and their services are no longer available. But don’t worry! We still have our remove and recycle services available.

Fridge Buyback is a NSW government initiative to remove old second household fridges for free. In certain cases a $35 rebate will be awarded.*

Many households around NSW have an old fridge in their garage. However what people don’t realise is that these old fridges cost and average of $265 in electricity per year to run. And not only are they expensive, they also release harmful greenhouse gases into our atmosphere.

To participate in the program, your fridge must be a working second fridge that has been in regular use, is 250 litres or more in size, and at least 10 years old.

Supported by the NSW Government’s Climate Change Fund, this program has already collected over 30,000 fridges, reducing NSW’s greenhouse gas emissions by over 30,000 tonnes per year.

Don’t live in NSW? No problem! If you buy a new fridge from Appliances Online, we can also remove and recycle your old appliance (Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Canberra, Geelong, Newcastle and Wollongong metro areas only).

Just one example of how we can all work together to make the world a greener place.

Louise is a writer with a passion for appliances, especially those that involve food. She is particularly fond of ovens because they enable her to make cake. Apart from baking Louise also enjoys listening to alternative music, dying her hair various unnatural colours and writing poetry that has been described (by her Nan) as 'quite nice'. On her appliance wish list is a Hello Kitty toaster and 'Hero' the barking dog-shaped hot dog maker. She lives in Sydney. Google+

  1. We are often asked to remove old fridges as part of our cleaning service. The stuff that can grow inside a disused fridge is incredible.
