It wasn’t quite London Olympics training, but pumping iron was at least given new meaning at the Morphy Richards Iron-Off last Friday at Wollongong.

The Aussie athletes – who took off their kit for the event – included Ironman Ali Day, Super fish and Australian Champion David McKeon, Australian triathletes Aaron Royle and Shane Barrie, and Australian High Jump Champion Petrina Price.

But it was World Champion track runner Ryan Gregson that proved the fastest (no surprises there for the 1,500m champ) and neatest iron man to take the title.

“The day was a huge success with an enormous crowd attending and our brand reaching the Wollongong community along with promoting our ComfiGrip Irons through our ambassador Ali Day,” Fiona Petkaris, Morphy Richards national marketing executive said.

“Morphy Richards gave away a range of prizes, including Shirtmaster Ironing boards and ComfiGrip Irons all to the value of $4,000.”

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
