Samsung has revealed that it is taking built-in water dispensers in fridges to a whole new level with its upcoming line of products.

The technology giant announced last week (February 14) that it would be teaming up with innovation soft drink company SodaStream to deliver a new four-door fridge.

The RF31FMESBSR fridge will offer SodaStream’s three levels of carbonation – just like the benchtop appliance – the same way many refrigerators already distribute chilled water and ice externally.

SodaStream chief executive officer Daniel Birnbaum told business news website Forbes that the new fridge marked the future in soft drink consumption.

“There will be no more need to buy, carry, store and find a way to dispose the billions of plastic bottles and cans to enjoy fresh, delicious fizzy drinks at home,” he said.

“The days of this old habit are numbered, as our technology is beating a path to a cleaner, less-expensive and healthier future for consumers and the planet.”

The new model is set to go on sale in the US in the coming months for almost US$4,000.

But while Australians might have to wait to hear if they’ll be able to get their hands on the SodaStream fridge, Samsung has introduced a new range of top-mount models to the local market.

The range – which includes the frosted white 341L SR340MW model – includes a 10-year guarantee and an Easy Slide shelf for increased access to food.

“The refrigerator is at the heart of the kitchen and with its new top-mount range, Samsung brings powerful technology into the home, empowering Australian families to get more out of their appliances and enabling households to run more efficiently and harmoniously,” Samsung Australia’s head of home appliances Mike Lilly stated.
