Australia’s Marc Newson, internationally acclaimed as the most accomplished and influential designer of his generation, has designed a range of kitchen appliances for the Italian Smeg brand.

The collaboration with Newson has further enhanced the unique reputation of Smeg as the only appliance brand to work with leading architects and designers to ensure its appliances deliver the true essence of its philosophy – Technology with Style.

The Marc Newson range comprises electric pyrolytic and vapour clean ovens, gas hobs and induction cooktops that exude the unmistakeable style of the designer.

The Newson Thermoseal multifunction ovens embody the Newson love of colour. The enamel versions are available in rich yellow, pistachio green and peacock blue, while the matt black and classic white ovens are finished in non-reflective glass. A beautiful satin stainless steel finish is also available.

The FP610 ovens feature a large touch control panel that is both intuitive and user-friendly. As Newson says: “Let’s face it, who reads instruction manuals?  I don’t.  I bin them immediately”.

Easy to clean, the coloured ovens come with a pyrolytic cleaning function, while the black, white, and stainless steel versions feature Smeg’s unique vapour clean.

All ovens carry impressive energy consumption credentials having exceeded the highest European energy rating (Class A).

The equally eye-catching 75cm gas cooktops are manufactured from a single piece of steel and feature five burners with highly efficient vertical flame technology (these are far more energy efficient than the conventional ‘flower’ burners).

Again, simplicity and intuition are key – the layout of the elegant silver or brass control knobs mirror the placement of the gas burners.

One of Newson’s pet hates is that most hobs, and appliances in general, are so complex to operate.  “One of the things I was determined to do was position the controls in exactly the same layout as the burners.  No silly maps describing which thing corresponds to what,” said Newson.

Seven induction cooktops complete the range, finished in black frameless glass with forward-positioned touch controls.

Features of the Newson induction cooktop include 15 temperature settings for each zone, automatic pan recognition, power boost, child safety lock, safety cut-out and 99-minute timer.

Another clever feature is the highly effective stop-in-temp setting – this holds and maintains the temperature at the desired level.

Smeg’s Marc Newson kitchen appliances are edgy, beautiful, and user-friendly, and are already being heralded as a works of art in the kitchen.
