Glorious golden gadgets for your home

Appliance Talk Humour

The rumour mill is grinding away that international fruit business and occasional electronics manufacturer, Apple, may be planning to release a new iPhone with a spectacular golden finish.

It makes sense, in a way – phones are personal status symbols, and the more blingin’ yours looks, the more your value goes up in the eyes of certain people.

So why not take this particular train of reasoning to its not-entirely-logical conclusion and sort out some glittering and golden appliances for your home?

Golden vacuum

Golden Vacuum

This thing first appeared on our radar more than a year ago, partly for its choice of material (solid gold!) and partly for its price tag… ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

one million dollars

Alas, we can’t offer you an actually golden vacuum here at Appliances Online, though we can provide a few potential alternatives…

We do have the above Black & Decker Dustbuster in Champagne, which is just about as classy as gold, as well as Miele vacuums in Diamond Grey and Midnight Purple Pearl for if you prefer precious gems over metals.

Decadent fridge

Smeg retro fridge price

Okay, so it’s not precisely “gold” as such, but this Chocolate fridge from SMEG with trim in a golden hue is certainly at the luxurious end of the spectrum, and looks quite rich (just like chocolate – geddit?).

samsung sodastream fridge

If you’d prefer a somewhat more practical fridge, there’s always the option of a Samsung fridge that makes use of Silver Nano technology, which uses silver ions to disrupt the growth of bacteria, keeping your food super-fresh.

Gold-titanium alloy iron

It was pointed out at the end of his first movie that “Iron Man” is a bit of a misnomer, considering that his suit is actually made from an ice-resistant gold/titanium alloy (with a bit of hot rod red thrown in).  But it’s not a name that exactly rolls off the tongue.  Fortunately, it leads to hilarious images like this.

While it’s not likely to be able to withstand battles with supervillains, this Sunbeam iron does has a nice golden colour scheme, as well as a shiny soleplate fashioned from scratch-resistant Resilium®.

Golden kitchen

most expensive kitchen

Remember when we told you all about the most expensive kitchen in the world?  Also known as the Colosseo Oro, this extremely subtle and low-key design would set you back approximately $440,000.

It’s not quite the same, but you can create a similar effect in your own home with a Falcon oven in Royal Blue and Brass.  The royal touch is important, as it’s well known that the British royal family have a thing for gadgets, while also maintaining their traditions.

Gold TV

We understand that the gold TV seen above can be found in a Dubai hotel.  Looking at its surroundings, it appears to fit right in with the rest of the hotel’s subtle colour scheme.

liquifi mirror tv

While we can’t offer you anything quite on the scale of a gold-plated telly, Liquifi Mirror TVs are still pretty luxurious, with frames that look pretty darn great.  And to make sure your TV’s picture remains clear and noise-free, make sure it’s hooked up with cables and leads integrating gold-plated connector pins, which resist corrosion and help ensure smooth data transfers.

Gold, silver and bronze coffee machines

Steampunk coffee

Wouldn’t your morning brew taste all the more glorious when its espresso shots are coming out of one of these steampunk-inspired beauties?  Gold, silver AND bronze?  Reminds me of something…

Rather than a golden coffee machine, why not look at this Jura design, coloured in platinum – isn’t platinum more valuable than gold anyway?  Or how about a DeLonghi Nespresso machine in Ice Silver – colder than regular silver!

Golden BBQ

gold BBQ

This golden barbeque is understood to have been made by Beefeater for the Sydney Home Show, and later verified as the World’s Most Expensive BBQ at $165,000 in 2009.  Though I wonder – doesn’t gold have a relatively low melting point compared with other metals?  Dammit Jim, I’m a blogger, not a metallurgist!

As an alternative, we suggest the Beefeater BUGG, which comes in a delightful amber hue, though unfortunately there are no insects trapped within, full of dinosaur blood that’s ripe for cloning.

So if you’re aiming to sort out a golden kitchen, we may not always be able to help you.  But if you’re looking for appliances that are worth their weight in gold, shop at Appliances Online!

Mark joined Appliances Online in November 2011 and has since learned more than he ever expected to know about appliances. He enjoys looking for new and unusual ways for to solve everyday problems using typical household appliances. When he’s not toiling at the desks of Appliances Online and Big Brown Box, he tries to find time to write the next big bestseller and draw satirical cartoons, but is too easily distracted by TV, music and video games. Mark’s favourite appliance is the Dyson Groom Tool, as he loves the concept of vacuuming your dog. Google+
