Trek for Timor 2010

Two Saturdays ago (oh, how the bones moan just thinking about it!) Appliances Online’s Scott Babbage and I joined “Trek for Timor 2010” and walked 45.4 kilometres through the bushland of the Blue Mountains to raise money for the village of Hato Builico in East Timor.

Hitting the trail at 7am, Scott and I (members of teams Doctors and Patients respectively) were soon at the magnificent Wentworth Falls. It was at this point that the Doctors pulled away, striding ahead of the Patients for the remainder of the day and early evening.

The scenic beauty of the morning remained throughout the day. Nary a breath of wind, cloudless skies and warm spring sunshine. A day of postcard proportions.

As the muscles began to ache under the wear of the trail – Grand Staircase, Golden Stairs, Giant Stairway… ALL THOSE STAIRS! – the mountain air energised our bodies. When night fell upon my team of Patients, thoughts turned to stories of the ‘Lithgow panther’. Needless to say we marched on!

The Doctors completed the course in 12 hours and 25 minutes, a dashing time that included the fastest final uphill leg of any team! The Patients finished in 15 hours and 13 minutes, a respectable effort that featured blisters and moonlight.

Both Scott and I were bowled over by the outstanding organisation of the walk. The volunteers were wonderful and there with a smile all over the course. Please read more about the Trek For Timor 2010 organisation. A donation to this group is a worthy investment in our interwebbed world.

Despite the moans, next year’s Trek for Timor in Kangaroo Valley will be hotly anticipated here at Appliances Online! Hey Scott, when do we start training?…

    Hi Sam.

Great post. We’re glad you had a good time but concerned that you spilled the beans about the Lithgow Panther – we’d been staying so quiet about him!

Would love to put your post on our own website. Could you let me know if that’s OK.

Can we expect a whole team from Appliances Online next time?
    Thanks again
