Wet weather leads to a surge in demand for dryers

Experts are predicting a further surge in dryer sales after the recent spell of wet weather.
Appliances Online has already seen a 16% increase in the number of dryers bought compared to the previous week.
Sales consultant Colin Jones said the exceptional conditions, coupled with the improved technology of dryers, makes them a much more appealing option for customers.
“People always have to do their laundry, whatever the weather, and this means people are looking to buy a dryer when the seasons change,” he said.
“Whereas in the past people may have thought twice about buying a dryer because of the energy costs involved, now they can get appliances that are better on the budget and more efficient.
“Getting the right dryer means saving time, while avoiding having to hang your clothes outdoors where they can become stiff or caught in a change of conditions.”
Colin, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the industry, said the traditional choice of vented dryers put a lot of moisture back into the room causing a build-up of mould and mildew.
As a result, the focus has switched to more ‘high end’ options such as condenser dryers and heat pump dryers.
“People are not always going for the cheap models, they want something that is energy efficient,” he added.
“If they spend more, they’ll make the savings back on energy costs. A heat pump dryer for example has a 6* energy rating, compared to 1.5 or 2 on vented dryers.
“There are more energy efficient dryers coming onto the market. Most major brands have at least one, so customers have a lot more choice.”
