Snakes… on a dishwasher?

What do you do when you order a new kitchen appliance, and it comes delivered with potentially deadly reptile, absolutely free?

This unlikely scenario actually happened to an unlucky individual in the United States.

According to Business Insider, California resident Jessica Hasson had a dishwasher delivered to her house from a major US retailer.  She noticed it was missing a few key components and was on the phone with the retailer to organise replacements, when her boyfriend noticed the snake tangled up among the dishwasher pipes, trapped inside the packing tape holding them in place.

Hasson Tweeted a photo of the snake and spent the next three hours on the phone, trying to sort out a solution.  The local Animal Control was reportedly unable to come to her house as the snake was ‘already contained’, and in the end, after a lot of time and effort spent on the phone with customer service representatives, the retailer took the dishwasher away, the snake included.  At the time of writing, Hasson was still waiting on a replacement from the retailer (of the dishwasher, not the snake).

According to Hasson’s Twitter feed, she was advised by a biologist that the snake was likely a Striped Racer that must have crawled into the warehouse and got stuck in the dishwasher packaging.  Its final fate is unknown to us.

Just like when Seth Horvitz ordered a TV online and got an assault rifle instead, this was clearly an extraordinary situation that needed an extraordinary solution.

At Appliances Online, we sell only brand-new appliances, still sealed in their original boxes, meaning the chances of a potentially deadly (this is Australia – ALL snakes are potentially deadly!) snake arriving with your order are incredibly small.  And since our Handy Crew can install your new appliance as part of our delivery service, they’ll most likely discover your slithery hitchhiker before it even makes it off the truck – let’s hope none of the Handy Crew guys are ophidiophobes!

Finally, if you ever have any problems with a delivery or product from Appliances Online, from product breakdowns to damaged components to surprise reptiles, we encourage you to contact us so our team can organise a solution to provide you with a great shopping experience.

And keep in mind the immortal (and in this case, family-friendly) words of Mister Samuel L Jackson:

Mark joined Appliances Online in November 2011 and has since learned more than he ever expected to know about appliances. He enjoys looking for new and unusual ways for to solve everyday problems using typical household appliances. When he’s not toiling at the desks of Appliances Online and Big Brown Box, he tries to find time to write the next big bestseller and draw satirical cartoons, but is too easily distracted by TV, music and video games. Mark’s favourite appliance is the Dyson Groom Tool, as he loves the concept of vacuuming your dog. Google+
