They say that caffeine charges one’s cognitive ability. Perhaps that’s what happened to the legends at ThinkGeek who have blended their scientific know how with coffee making for the ultimate brew.

It’s called the Vacuum Brewer, and it is supposed to make an exceptional cup of joe without sacrificing an iota of aroma, which all stays within the two glass containers.

According to ThinkGeek, vacuum brewing avoids the “chewy” texture of the French and Italian press and pressure method, making it suitable for delicate blends from Africa and Central America, which is where the majority of beans are sourced from.

“The method is pretty old school,” they say. “But it’s awesome to watch and the resulting brew is clear and delicious.”

Like with any scientific experiment the Geeks had a hypothesis, a method, and a conclusion.

The hypothesis:

Vapour pressure and the expansion and contraction of gasses will push liquid from vessel to vessel.

The method:

  • Heat water to a boil in the carafe and pour your prepared coffee grounds into the upper glass container.
  • When the water is boiling, insert the stem of the upper container into the carafe.
  • Pressure in the lower vessel will push the hot water up the stem and into the coffee grounds, absorbing all the wonderful flavors.
  • Once the coffee is brewed, remove the carafe from the heat. Gravity and the pressure difference in the upper chamber will push the brewed coffee into the lower carafe leaving the grounds in the top of easy disposal.
The result:

“The result is delicious coffee. Science + Coffee = Awesome!”

Now, for that smart enhancing cup of coffee…
