Samsung’s new stealth NaviBot S

Samsung’s latest robotic vacuum iteration is smaller, smarter and will sneak under furniture for a thorough, hands-free clean.
Boasting a bit of the best of both worlds, the NaviBot S incorporates technology with practicality. To begin with, the bot uses ‘cognitive’ mapping of the area, controlled by two CPU chips. This means that the device will create a map of the house by using an in-built camera which takes 15 frames a second.
The vacuum bot will take this information and figure out a cleaning route while avoiding obstacles, remembering where it has been and what remains to be cleaned.
Compared with its predecessors, the Samsung NaviBot S is much smaller: down in height from 200mm in 2005 to 80mm today, making it capable of sneaking under beds and sofas for cleaning in difficult places to get to.
As if hands-free vacuuming wasn’t enough, Samsung have introduced spot cleaning and self cleaning features. With spot cleaning, the NaviBot S senses a particularly dirty area and will focus on cleaning it – with an automatic power boost – until it senses that it is clean. Once all the vacuuming has been done, the NaviBot S will take itself off to its home to recharge, and empty its own dust container into a central bin!
Mike Lilly, head of home appliances, Samsung Electronics Australia said that the NaviBot S is one of the company’s more inspired appliance products.
“The robot vacuum is one of the most innovative products for the Samsung Home Appliance category,” said Lilly in a statement.
“Australian consumers value product features that make technology ‘hassle free’. Samsung recognised this need and have specifically designed the NaviBot S to ease the burden of cleaning.”
