Front loaders and top loaders have been the latest appliances under consumer scrutiny as part of Canstar Blue’s most satisfied customer survey.

Electrolux cleaned up the competition for the most satisfied customers award for front loader washing machines in front of Samsung, LG, Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, Simpson and Whirlpool.

The brands were pitched against each other in categories including value for money, ease of use, noise, design, warranty, water efficiency, and performance.

It was a close call, with several of the brands revealing stellar results:

  • Electrolux achieved five stars for overall customer satisfaction, value for money, performance and reliability, ease of use, noise, design and water efficiency
  • Both Samsung and Fisher & Paykel excelled for their machine design
  • Bosch were awarded five stars for value for money and water efficiency
  • LG outperformed all other brands for their warranty and service

Almost 90 per cent of respondents said that energy efficiency was a deal breaker when buying a new front loader machine.

According to Canstar Blue, energy efficient machines save $30 a year on electricity bills, plus another $30 for using a cold water wash.

Meanwhile, Fisher & Paykel and Samsung topped ratings for overall most satisfied customer award in the top loader category.

General marketing manager at Fisher & Paykel, Peter Russell, has happily received the award.

“Winning this award is special, as Canstar Blue finds out which brands consumers are most satisfied with – it further reinforces Fisher & Paykel’s reputation as the leading whitegoods brand,” he said.

“It’s nice to add another trophy to the cabinet – we won the Best Fridge Brand 2012 at the renowned CHOICE Awards and have won the Readers Digest Awards for the ‘Most Trusted Brand in Whitegoods’ for two consecutive years.”

“We are delighted to be recognised as a reliable, thoughtful and innovative industry leader.”

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
