Appliance News Heaters Heating & Cooling

The Evantair Electric Flame Effect Heater has been officially recalled due to the effect of fire becoming reality.

The flame effect heater is being taken off shelves due to the chance of it catching fire. It is the third heater to be recalled this winter.

According to the recall notice there is a chance that a high resistance joint in the fuse holder will overheat and catch fire.

The electric flame heater (model number: EFEH110) is supplied by Link Technology and was sold by Sam’s Warehouse from 29 March 2012 to 4 June 2012. It was sold in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.

Affected consumers have been advised to stop using the fireplace heater immediately and to disconnect it from the power supply. Link Technology encourages customers to phone 1300 429 394 between 9 am – 4 pm to log their details and receive instructions explaining how to return the product and receive a refund.

Earlier this year a toxic and scalding Coles oil heater was recalled as well as a Big W fan heater, for fear of fire risk.

Also recalled this week is a Homemaker stainless steel urn sold at Kmart.

The 6.8-litre urn features a plastic tap and an external water level gauge. According to the official recall notice there is a possibility of the plastic tap breaking, resulting in “serious burns or scalding”.

It was sold nationally at Kmart stores from 22 November 2012 to 11 April 2012. Consumers have been encouraged to stop using the product immediately and to return it to any Kmart store for a full refund.

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
