Appliance News Fridges & Freezers

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Unfortunately, Fridge Buyback has shut up shop in NSW and their services are no longer available. But don’t worry! We still have our remove and recycle services available.

Residents living in the shire of Hornsby in Sydney’s north west are next to benefit from the New South Wales Government funded Fridge Buyback project. On 6 February Hornsby residents will have the opportunity to have their old, second fridges removed for free as well as offering households a financial incentive to do this.

Households are eligible for free removal and a $35 rebate if the fridge is at least 10 years old and 250 litres or more capacity, and if removal of the fridge requires less than 6 steps. Removal is still free if it requires between 7 and 20 steps to take away by the professional removalists.

Consumers could be paying an extra $265 a year in energy bills by running old fridges that use three times the energy of a new fridge, according to the Fridge Buyback project.

The scheme is being supported by the NSW Climate Change Fund in an effort to reduce green house gas emissions by at least 152,000 tonnes by collecting 19,000 second fridges over the next 2 years. The state estimates a third of Sydney households have a second fridge.

Keeping in line with the environmental mission, the collected fridges will be professionally degassed and the metals recycled.

The special collection is available for residents of Arcadia, Berowra, Berowra Waters, Berowra Heights, Berrilee, Brooklyn, Cowan, Fiddletown, Galston, Glenorie, Middle Dural and Mount Ku-ring-gai.
