Why leave it up to a factory in China to tell you that “Life does not get better by chance. It gets better by change,” or “Enjoy yourself while you can,” or “If your cookie is still in one piece buy Lotto”.

Instead, decide your own delicious destiny with a personal fortune cookie maker.

Not yet available in Australia, the Sunbeam Cookie Maker (FPSBFCM40) gives you the power to write a fortune before it bakes fresh homemade fortune cookies, two at a time.

It’s a small, benchtop appliance that’s perfect for a night of hilarity. Quirky quips, well wishes, jokes, or secrets could be revealed by this cookie maker, designed for lighthearted fun in the kitchen.

It comes with fortune paper holders and a pen, tongs for easy removal, four ‘drying’ containers, a scoop and a spatula.

The freedom to choose your fate also comes with the freedom to choose a recipe. So wholemeal and gluten free cookies are also an option.

It doesn’t come with fortune ideas though so here are a few to get you started: (you can find more here)

  • Be prepared for extra energy.
  • Keep your feet on the ground even though friends flatter you.
  • Let your fantasies unwind…
  • Volition, Strength, Languages, Freedom and Power rests in you.
  • All the preparation you’ve done will finally be paying off!
  • A human being is a deciding being.
  • About time I got out of that cookie.
  • Trust your intuition.

The history of Chinese fortune cookies:

Well, they’re not as Chinese as they are first Japanese and predominantly American. As one writer put it: “They were introduced by the Japanese, popularised by the Chinese, but ultimately … consumed by Americans.”

In the 19th century a similar looking cookie was made in Kyoto, Japan, and there is a Japanese temple tradition of random fortunes, called omikuji.

The Japanese claim to have introduced the treat into America and today 3 billion fortune cookies are eaten around the world.
