Big W has recalled the Abode Stainless Steel Deep Fryer for fear of its handles falling off when lifting oil.

It is the fourth recall in the last year for three Adobe products, Big W’s home brand.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s recall website warns that the side handles may detach when lifting the deep fryer, “possibly causing serious burn injuries of hot oil splashes on the user or bystanders.”

The deep fryer was sold nationwide in Big W stores from August 2011 to 9 July 2012. It has a Big W keycode  8230828 and model number DF30BW.

Affected customers have been asked to immediately stop using the faulty product and return it to any Big W store for a full refund.

Already this year in July the Abode 2000W Oscillating Fan heater was recalled due to a fire hazard; its initial recall was in May 2011.

In October last year the Abode Multi-Functional Blender was recalled to possible dislodgement of the rubber seal  and the chance of ingesting it.

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
