A construction site in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs has been broken into overnight.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information from the public after a building site was broken into last night.

The house-to-be on Brodie Avenue in Little Bay had over $20,000 worth of construction equipment and home appliances stolen between 6.30pm yesterday and 6.30am today.

The thieves used bolt cutters to break into storage containers.

The robbery comes as a timely reminder to those building homes. Valuable items such as home appliances should be fitted on the day the owners plan to move in.

A number of similar appliance thefts from construction sites affected Sydney’s Northern Beaches last year.

The police recommend people mark and list household goods such as appliances and electrical devices. This helps the authorities determine if an item has been stolen and its return to the rightful owner.

Police were contacted at 6.30am today and an investigation is underway.

Anyone with any information in relation to the robbery is asked to contact Eastern Beaches Detectives or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
