Miele Appliances Company Background
Miele are a German manufacturer based in Gütersloh of high-end domestic appliances,
machines for commercial applications and built-in kitchens. Miele was founded over
100 years ago in 1899 by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann. Since then Miele has always
been a family-owned, family-run company.
Since the founding days Mieles guiding motto has always been "forever better". To
this day Miele believe the philosophy incorporates a great sense of responsibility
- responsibility towards dealers and consumers, members of staff and the way they
interact, the environment, suppliers, the communities where manufacturing plants
are located and, not least, towards the public.
Miele products are always of the highest quality and Miele to this day are pioneers
for domestic appliances. Below are just a few important Miele developments:
1900 - Miele produce the first wooden-tub washing machine
1929 - Miele produce Europes first electrically driven domestic dishwasher
1978 - Miele produce the worlds first computer-controlled washing machines, tumble
dryers and dishwashers with sensor-touch controls
1986 - Miele launch the cutlery tray for dishwashers
1996 - Miele produce the worlds first built in coffee machine
2000 - Miele launch their honeycomb laundry care system
Miele manufactures in nine factories in Germany and one in Austria. The high quality
standards which Miele has set itself are the main reason for the high degree of
vertical integration apparent in the company and the extent to which core components
are produced in-house. Miele even develope and produce the electronic controls for
dishwashers, tumble dryers and washing machines at their own electronics production
plant rather than outsourcing as many other manufacturers do.
