Hot Water System Buying Guides
Rinnai Infinity Continuous Flow Hot Water System Buyers Guide
When buying a continuous flow hot water system there are six important things to
identify and consider to be sure that you have the right system to suit your needs.
What is your gas type?
Is the gas supply at your home natural gas or LPG?
How many bathrooms do you have?
Continuous flow hot water systems will never run out of hot water. However the amount
of hot water that each system can produce at any one time does vary between models,
this makes the total number of showers potentially operating at the same time extremely
important.

A single bathroom home with only one shower will comfortably operate using the smaller
Infinity 16 or 20, whereas a two or three bathroom home will require the larger
Infinity 26 or 32.
What type of shower head's do you have?
The type of shower head installed in your home is also important. Most States and
Territories have legislation where new homes must have a minimum of 3 Star (AAA)
9 litre/min shower heads installed. A single 9 litre/min shower head will comfortably
operate using the smaller Infinity 16 or 20 in conjunction with a tap being used
at the same time. If you are living in an older home it is important to identify
the flow of your shower head. Many older homes still have higher flow rated shower
heads, some as much as double the new regulations. These homes will require the
larger Infinity 26 or 32.
Do you have a large bath or spa?
If you have a large bath or spa that needs filling, then regardless of the number
of bathrooms or showers you have, the larger 26 or 32 litre Infinity is recommended.
The use of the 26 or 32 litre Infinity will also ensure faster filling of your bath
or spa.
Where do you live?
It is important to identify the ambient water temperature of the area you live in
as ambient water temperatures vary immensely throughout Australia. In the northern
and warmer parts of Australia the water out of the ground often exceeds 20°C, whereas
in the southern parts it is considerably colder. All Infinity models have a specified
flow rate based on a 25°C rise above the ambient water temperature. If the ambient
water is really cold then smaller units may struggle to provide the required flow
rate at your preset temperature, whereas if the ambient water temperature is already
warm then the larger Infinity may be oversized. If you are unsure about what your
ambient water temperature is you may want to talk to your plumber or give us a call
on 1300 000 500.
What is the distance to bathrooms and wet areas?
The further away the shower, the longer it takes to get the hot water, and the more
potential for water to be wasted down the drain. Where feasible, always install
your hot water system as close as possible to the outlets that are mainly used (i.e.
shower or kitchen sink). The Rinnai Infinity is a compact unit enabling it to be
installed virtually on any outside wall. If you are building or renovating, this
is a great time to correct the position if it is currently too far away and water
wastage is occurring. To help overcome this, Rinnai have the Smartstart water saver
accessory that has been specifically developed to help reduce water wastage.
