Today's modern dishwashers not only clean your dishes better, but they are quieter, sleeker and can blend into your kitchen as a drawer or cabinet. At Appliances Online, we understand everyone requires different dishwasher capacity, functions and style.

Here are the main types of dishwashers for sale at Appliances Online:

  • Standard Dishwasher: These models are the standard option when it comes to price and style. They are inbuilt into the space in your kitchen and have a drop down hinged door. The standard size is 600mm W, 600mm D with variable heights from 810mm - 850mm,The dimensions can vary depending on what model or brand you are looking for.A standard dishwasher has a single inlet hose, single drain hose and normal 10AMP power connection.

  • Slimline Dishwasher: These models are usually 45cm wide and fit in tight or narrow spaces. This is especially useful if you have limited space to fit a dishwasher.
  • Capacity

When it comes to measurements for dishwashers, the external size usually doesn't fluctuate. It is the amount of place settings that is what you should be focusing on. This is the maximum number of plates and cutlery that can fit in your washer. Usually a standard dishwasher would hold up to twelve 5 pieced place settings. A Slimline dishwasher's capacity would be around fourteen 5 pieced place settings and the smaller dishwashers would hold up to eight 5 piece place settings.

Remember to measure the space intended to ensure the dishwasher you purchase will fit.

    Energy Rating

If you are interested in energy efficiency, check out the Energy Rating label on each dishwasher. The Energy Rating label makes it easy to compare the energy efficiency of different household appliances. Less energy consumption means a greener environment and lower power bills.

Usually the more expensive the dishwasher, the better its energy efficiency because of its up to date and green friendly features. However, in the long run it tends to make it cheaper to run.

A dishwasher that has an energy rating over the standard level is the Whirlpool Dishwasher ADP900IX. It is reasonably cheap and includes a capacity wash of 14 place settings. With 10 different wash functions and a turbo drying system, you cannot go wrong with the price of this washer.

    Water Rating

The WELS Water Rating system enables you to compare water efficiency. The more stars, the more water efficient. With the advanced models advanced technology and focus on less usage of water, you can now save more with your bills by purchasing a high water rated dishwasher.

Longer cycles usually tend to use more water for cleaning. You tend to save water by using the dishwasher instead of keeping the tap on to hand wash all your dirty dishes.

    Features & Programs

When it comes to features and programs, they all can slightly vary depending on the brand and style of dishwasher you have purchased. With the new models, you will find that the basic features may have advanced and upgraded.

Here are a few features to consider:

Wash and rinse cycles: There are usually three basic wash cycles: light, normal and heavy. However, new models include up to 19 cycle options; from a pot scrubber to washing blast.

Dry settings: You can use dry settings with or without heat. If you are looking for an energy saving option for drying then economy or air dry settings allow you to do so.

Filters and food disposal: If you don't like to rinse your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher then choose a model with self-cleaning features, filtration systems or food disposers.

Displays: Depending on what your style is for your kitchen you can choose whether you want your dials displayed or not. The advanced dishwashers now have digital displays instead of dials.

Delayed start and noise insulation: If you would like to minimise noise, look for dishwashers that have heavy insulation. For delayed start you can now time when you want your cycle to begin; so whether it's through the night or when you've left the house, it's up to you.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Can I use regular dish soap in a dishwasher?

A: No, this will hinder your wash cycle. The suds will build up heavily in your dishwasher and may cause it to overflow from the appliance to the floor.

Q: Can I wash my fine china or antique china in my dishwasher?

A: No. Fine china, antique china, gold trimmed or hand painted place settings are not suitable for dishwashers. This is because of the heat from the dishwasher. It is best to just hand wash these delicate items.

Q: There is a bad odour emanating from my Dishwasher. Why? What is the cause?

A: If there is a bad odour coming from your dishwasher then try emptying your filter or do an empty rinse cycle.
