Chef Appliances Company Background
The beginning of Chef dates back to 1937 when Scottish immigrant Edgar Ferrier and his sons Sidney
and Frederick began making cast iron stoves in a shed in the backyard of their Melbourne home.
The Chef name was soon coined by Edgar's wife Rose Mary, fitting well with these homely origins.
Chef Appliances made its commercial debut with the invention of Australia's first pressed sheet metal stove in 1948.
Chef Appliances have always kept pace with the Australian way of life, always evolving and leading the way in the market for 50 years.
Chef Appliances greatest achievements in Australia's domestic appliance market are as follows:
- 1948 Chef Appliances made Australia's first all pressed metal stove
- 1965 Chef Appliances first international export to Hong Kong
- 1968 Chef Appliances introduced the gas wall oven and Australasia's first catalytic self cleaning enamelled oven
- 1972 Chef Appliances created the first natural gas cooktop burner
- 1978 Chef Appliances became the first company in the world to apply two coats and one fire wet-on-wet cover coat enabling system
- 1982 Chef Appliances became the first company in the world to install a dedicated tailor made luminous wall grease firing furnace for oven chassis
- 1990 Chef Appliances created the Chef Professional, Australia's first steam-capable domestic oven
- 1998 The Chef Professional was displayed in Harrods, London
- 2000 Chef Appliances were selected as the main supplier for domestic appliances for the 2000 Olympic Games Village in Sydney
- 2007 Chef Appliances reaches the milestone of producing 5.5million stoves since 1948. This meant that their products had been used in the cooking of more than one billion meals!

 The oven is such an overall disappointment.
I am not at all happy with the different style trivet (? the 2 rectangular raised components that the
saucepans rest on when using the hob) Although they look good the design is very poor. When heating a coffee pot for instance, they are extremely dangerous as it is tricky to balance the pot over the metal support. Also the additional raised trivet bit over the wok burner is so inconvenient as I can no longer momentarily rest hot trays or other hot items from the oven safely on the hob for fear of them sliding off, this is annoying in the extreme not to
mention very dangerous! My previous chef stove had a single trivet over all four burners that was by far easier to use and maintain. I am also disappointed with the 'fan' function on the oven. It definately does speed up proceedings, particularly when I have a full load baking, BUT the heat is still uneven, with definate 'hot spots' along the front and left hand side of the oven. So I still have to constantly be vigilant and move items around while they are baking. And finallly it would be so nice when buying a brand new oven, to have 3 shelves supplied instead of the given two!

Very happy with the oven, the quality in the
workmanship is at a class that anybody would appreciate in
any product they would purchase. My Wife is very impressed
with the non fan force version. When she is cooking her
sponge cakes, "the recipe is more
succesful". Taste reassures. Thankyou.

I have found that I have had to muck around
with temperature settings and length of cooking times due to
this oven not being fan-forced. Also the hot plates take a
while to heat, but it does the job.

I'm not please with electric cook tops as
a rule being an ex- chef. However as I have no gas available
this cook top was at an excellent price for what I needed at
the time.
I do like the white colour though as
all other appliances I have are white.

Very professional. Punctual with the delivery. Good selection of products. Only remark: the delivery team could have waited 5 minutes for the plumber to disconnect the old stove to take it away. Even if agreement said to have the stove disconnected and ready. WOULD USE THIS SERVICE AGAIN, NO DOUBT.

Very Very Impressed. Initially I was worried that I did all the ordering over the internet and didn't follow up with a phone call. However what was ordered was delivered when and where they said. Not only this it was cheaper than everybody else, even with the delivery. It would have cost me more at any of
the large retailers plus an additional delivery charge.
I will recommend appliances online to everybody and will only ever use your service from now on.
