Chef Appliances Company Background
Currently a subsidiary of the Electrolux Corporation, Chef Appliances has been in business since 1937 when Scottish immigrant Edgar Ferrier and his sons Sidney and Frederick began making cast iron stoves in a shed in the backyard of their Melbourne home. The Chef name was coined soon after by Edgar's wife Rose Mary. Chef Appliances made its commercial debut with the invention of Australia's first pressed sheet metal stove in 1948. Chef Appliances have always kept pace with the Australian way of life, evolving and leading the way in the market for 50 years. Chef is now a part of the larger Electrolux, granting them resources and expertise to make their range of appliances even better. However, the additional means at their disposal do not take away from Chef's stand alone achievements, beginning in 1948 with their first pressed metal stove. In 1965 Chef Appliances shipped their first international export to Hong Kong, starting the spread of their now worldwide reputation for quality. Innovation was the catchword in the 1970's when Chef created the first natural gas cooktop burner and pioneered a new enabling system. From having their appliances displayed at Harrods in London to being chosen as the main domestic supplier of appliances for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Chef Appliances have a history of distinction. With a goal of making their appliances versatile, efficient and easy to use, Chef continues to expand their reputation for quality. Their 80-litre capacity ovens are sure to be large enough for all your cooking needs. You'll please your family and friends with the ability to cook roasts, casseroles and biscuits with ease and you'll know that the stainless steel or classic white looks will blend seamlessly into your kitchen. Quiet and durable, Chef ovens don't need to be fussed over. With conventional, fan-forced or multifunction models, there's an oven that's perfect for your cooking style. And with a choice of either built in or separate grills, your options for making any dish you can imagine are wide open. Find your new oven today at a greatly discounted, best price guaranteed - only at Appliances Online. Chef's freestanding cookers are compact on the outside so they can fit in any kitchen (they are designed to fit in the standard 550mm space of the Australian home) but have the same generous 80-litre capacity as their ovens. You'll have no problem cooking up a tasty, healthy meal that will be sure to please your family and guests. Built with quality and durability in mind, Chef enamel cookers come in conventional or fan forced models. Also available in both gas and electric models you'll be able to find the perfect cooker for whatever fuel supply you have in your home. Since even the best recipes can produce unwanted odours and greasy steam during preparation, Chef's line of rangehoods will be sure to keep your kitchen fresh and clean. With equipped lights, a Chef rangehood will also shed a bit of light on your cooking. The centrifugal fans draw moisture and odours away from your kitchen meaning there's no need for any extra cleaners and the filters are easily removed for cleaning in your dishwasher. Chef rangehoods are available in three varieties: Canopy hoods that feature a slim, modern profile, Retractable hoods that are designed to blend into your cabinetry and Fixed hoods that are installed directly on the wall of your kitchen. If your current oven is unable to meet your growing demands, why not consider a new one from Appliances Online. Our prices can't be beat and our customer service is second to none. Review for:
Freestanding Upright Chef Gas Oven GBC5486W
The oven is such an overall disappointment.
I am not at all happy with the different style trivet (? the 2 rectangular raised components that the
saucepans rest on when using the hob) Although they look good the design is very poor. When heating a coffee pot for instance, they are extremely dangerous as it is tricky to balance the pot over the metal support. Also the additional raised trivet bit over the wok burner is so inconvenient as I can no longer momentarily rest hot trays or other hot items from the oven safely on the hob for fear of them sliding off, this is annoying in the extreme not to
mention very dangerous! My previous chef stove had a single trivet over all four burners that was by far easier to use and maintain. I am also disappointed with the 'fan' function on the oven. It definately does speed up proceedings, particularly when I have a full load baking, BUT the heat is still uneven, with definate 'hot spots' along the front and left hand side of the oven. So I still have to constantly be vigilant and move items around while they are baking. And finallly it would be so nice when buying a brand new oven, to have 3 shelves supplied instead of the given two! Diane

Freestanding Upright Chef Electric Oven EBC5481W
I have used my new Stove a few times now & I am very happy with the performance. It heats up very quick & the ceramic cooktop is very easy to keep clean. I would recommend this Upright Oven to others. The price was also the BEST around as I did my homework. Thank You Appliances Online I will be using you again in the future & telling my family & friends. Narelle

The only thing I don't like about the Chef freestanding stove is that the controls are on the front where children can reach. My previous Chef had them at the back. Jan

My mum has had a similar one for years and has always been happy with it. This one is good so far. Bigger splash back would be nice - but unfortunately many of them are like that now. Milica

Latest Questions Q Q1. What is the difference between the EBC5271W & the ECB5451W Chef ovens?
Q2. Is the glass on the ribbon element type stoves unbreakable??
Question for:
Freestanding Upright Chef Electric Oven EBC5451W
Asked by
Bonita
(23/04/2012 9:41:46 AM)
A A 1: The difference between the two models is the cooking function. The EBC5271W uses a conventional cooking method, which uses heating elements at the sides with a fan at the back to circulate the heat.
The EBC5451W at $930 uses fan forced cooking. This method of cooking is said to give a more even cook. The heating element is situated in front of the fan and is circulated more evenly due to this.
A2: The glass on the ceran glass cook tops are not unbreakable but they do have a high resistance to shock. You cannot drop things on them from high up as it will more than likely crack the glass.

A Unfortunately, the manufactures do not supply trim kits for wall ovens. The only thing I could suggest is to call a company called Granite Transformations on (02) 8817 5900. They customise kitchens and they may be able to make you one.

Q Does this oven have auto cut out on the gas for safety reasons? I have a Westinghouse one that has an auto cut out and will not leak gas when the switch is turned on accidently.

A The auto gas cut off usually also known as the 'flame failure' feature which this product does not have. If you see a product and it does use the term 'flame failure' you will find that it will have the feature you are after.
