LG’s webOS makes Smart TV simple and fun

TV, Audio & Electronics TVs

One thing that often puts people off Smart TVs is that they can be a real pain to set up and use.

Why would you struggle through layers of incomprehensible menus to access Smart features when you could just crash out on the couch and watch telly the way you always have?

With this in mind, LG has developed its new series of LG Smart TVs with ease of use as top priority – the webOS interface and improved Magic Remote allow easy access to more content, and the LG Bean Bird makes setting up the TV’s Smart features simple and fun!

What is webOS?

This Smart TV operating system (like what you’d find on your computer) wasn’t always used in Smart TVs – in fact, it was first developed for Palm and HP smartphones and tablets, before being adopted by LG and reworked to suit TVs.

Thanks to these handheld origins, webOS makes using your LG Smart TV a more intuitive experience, with a clear visual layout rather than layers of complex menus.

Every source of content, from TV channels to apps and external devices, is represented by a colourful card at the bottom of the screen, making multitasking or channel-surfing between different apps, movies and shows as simple as switching between tabs on your computer’s browser.

The webOS interface disappears whenever you’re not using it, and its low-profile design allows you to select your next viewing option without interrupting what you’re currently watching, making webOS one of the smartest ways to use a Smart TV that we’ve ever seen.

LG Magic Remote – better than ever!

The key to operating the LG Smart TV is the newly-improved LG Magic Remote, which offers a range of different methods to control your TV.

Motion sensors allow the Magic Remote to behave as a hybrid computer mouse, Nintendo Wii controller, and magic wand straight out of Harry Potter.

Pointing the remote at the screen can summon up a cursor just like on your computer screen, which you can use to tab between different Smart features and apps in webOS.

For anyone who’s ever found themselves yelling at the TV to do what we want, the Magic Remote has you covered.

By directing your voice commands into the Magic Remote’s integrated microphone, the TV will start carrying out your orders faster than you can say “Tea, Earl Grey, Hot”!

Finally, for traditionalists, the Magic Remote functions just like a classic remote control… but better!

Being radio-controlled rather than infrared-controlled, you don’t even need to point the remote at the TV for its buttons to work!

It’s the little things that really make this TV simpler to enjoy…

Fun TV setup with Bean Bird

Another reason why many people don’t get the most out of their Smart TVs is because they never set them up properly in the first place.

It’s understandable, really – a regular TV can be tricky enough to get plugged in, connected to the aerial and properly tuned, so why force yourself through the extra hassle of networking it with your home’s WiFi and smart devices?

LG’s solution to tricky Smart TV setup can be summaried in two words: Bean Bird!

Guided by this adorable cartoon bird of uncertain species (possibly some kind of penguin?), the TV will gently walk you through the setup and connection of your TV to access smart content, and show you how to get the most out of its many features.

It’s not every day you think about buying a TV just to experience its setup process, but because of Bean Bird, I for one am seriously tempted…
