Jabra Solemate™ Max Wireless Speaker review

For those of you who haven’t heard of the company Jabra, they are a worldwide supplier of headphones and speakers, renowned for their excellent quality and innovative use of technology.

Jabra has won a hell of a lot of design awards in the last 10 years for quite a few of their products, including the globally-recognised Red Dot Award, iF Product Design Award and the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) Innovation Award just to name a few.

I was lucky enough to play around with the Jabra Solemate Max Wireless Speaker the past week and I must say I was very impressed. The Solemate Max is the latest version of the Solemate and Solemate Mini, and the major difference is it’s bigger and louder!

The first thing I noticed was the rugged feel. The speaker is encased in a matte silicone, making the speaker dust, shock and splash-proof, allowing you to take it anywhere.

I was also impressed with the specifications and features. Jabra have upped their game by packing in four front-facing speakers, two tweeters and two woofers. This combo allows you to pump out 90 watts of total speaker power, and in return it plays back all your favourite tracks, crisp, clear and LOUD.

I also found that the sound quality did not differ at all when testing the different forms of connection to the Solemate Max – Bluetooth, NFC, 3.5mm Audio Cable or via micro USB cable. Connecting via Bluetooth was easy due to the voice-guided instructions that are activated when you hold down the Bluetooth button for a couple of seconds. NFC was simple – just a matter of tapping the NFC-activated area and away you go.

If your tunes are interrupted by a phone call, that is not an issue for the Solemate Max – you can answer the call and use the speaker as a speakerphone due to the built-in microphone.

Jabra integrated the 3.5mm Audio Cable into the base of the sole. This insures you will never lose, forget or damage the cable, and also means you can connect any audio device, even if they don’t have Bluetooth or NFC.

The controls are located on top of the speaker along with a Speak button. This is used to answer and end calls and it also give you and update on your battery life. All connections are located on the right and a handle is on the left.

One last thing; Jabra have also developed an app (Jabra Sound App) that adds full-spectrum Dolby® sound to your music, and includes a built-in equalizer so you can adjust the bass, treble and pitch for perfect sound. I do recommend installing it onto your smart device – you can also share playlists with friends and much more.

If you are in the market for a portable wireless speaker that is ideal for indoors and outdoors and compatible with almost anything, then I highly recommend the Jabra Solemate MAX!
