BIRTHDAY SALE: Seven appliances, seven deadly sins (and maybe even some Spongebob references)

Humour Promotions

With seven days of our seventh birthday sale left, it seems only fitting that we take a look at the appliances best suited to the seven deadly sins.

While some may argue that the sins may not all be that bad – and perhaps lost their meaning a little, considering that they provided the inspiration for each of the main characters in Spongebob Squarepants – there is no denying that we possess one or more of the deadly characteristics from time to time.

So when you’re feeling a little bit lazy, or are lusting after a new appliance, take comfort in the advice that the Appliances Online team has to offer.

Wrath

Squidward is always the first to express his negative outlook on life, but that doesn’t mean that you have to.

And since cleaning is one thing that can provoke rage and feuds in any household, so why not make things easier for yourself?

The wireless technology featured in the Electrolux Ergorapido Plus vacuum cleaner means that the mini-upright and hand-held in one can be easily manoeuvred around large pieces of furniture or in tight spaces.

The “grab and go” style of cleaning is ideal for unexpected spills or a quick tidy up before surprise guests arrive, as well as reducing arguments over whose turn it is to clean.

Greed

Mr Krabs embraces greed better than most other cartoon characters, as he is constantly coming up with a new plan to make money.

And even though Michael Douglas may have uttered his now infamous Gordon Gekko “greed is good” quote 25 years ago, but there is no better philosophy to adopt than when talking about television screens.

Investing in a TV is much like any other large household appliance – you want it to last for years and years.

Affordable TV screens don’t get much bigger than the 70 inch Sharp LC70LE735X Quattron. The powerful LED LCD also includes a host of smart TV features such as web browsing and Skype connectivity, and is the perfect addition to any loungeroom hungry for a big screen TV.

Envy

Going hand-in-hand with greed, it comes as no surprise that Mr Krabs’ archrival Plankton is the Spongebob character representing envy.

Owner of The Chum Bucket, Plankton is eager to steal the Krabby Patty formula from his competitor and put him out of business.

SMEG has been one of the most highly sought-after fridges since it was founded in 1940. Renowned for innovation and style, the iconic curves and retro exterior of the FAB fridge range is guaranteed to make anyone envious.

The SMEG FAB fridge comes in a range of colours to suit any kitchen decor – you could even get a cool shade of mint to keep the “green with envy” theme running.

Complete with 13 shelf height adjustment options, a five-bottle chromed wine rack and an automatic defrost function, the SMEG FAB fridge is both pretty to look at and practical to use.

Sloth

Poor ol’ Patrick. He seems to be the butt of most jokes on Spongebob Squarepants, but deep down we all know that everyone has a soft spot for the pink starfish.

Patrick lives by the sloth philosophy perfectly, even being presented with an award for “doing absolutely nothing longer than anyone else” in one episode.

There is no appliance more suited to the lazy side to all of us than the slow cooker. This one-pot wonder not only helps to reduce washing up, it also means that you can throw in all of the ingredients and walk away while your meal cooks.

Dubbed the “flavour maker”, the Breville BSC560 slow cooker boasts a non-stick EasySear pan – which means that you can sear the ingredients on the stovetop before slow cooking without having to swap pans.

Additional time-saving features include a dishwasher safe stainless steel lid, a cook and serve bowl, and an automatic setting that lets you have dinner ready for when you get home.

Pride

Sandy Cheeks is the Texan squirrel that isn’t afraid of telling her fellow Bikini Bottom residents where she’s from or what she’s done. She’s the only land animal living under the sea and she’s always quick to prove how strong she is.

While we all like to take pride in our home (or hometown like Sandy), that’s not the aspect of our lives that others see the most … it’s our appearance!

The face-to-face contact we have with our colleagues, friends, family and even complete strangers leads us to take pride in our appearance – especially when first impressions count!

Be one step ahead of everyone else and have your clothes looking their very best thanks to the Tefal GV7096 steam iron. It heats up fast and refills immediately, so you can give your outfit a quick refreshing steam before you head out the door.

There’s even an eco setting for energy savings and a lock system for transport and storage!

Lust

Spongebob Squarepants may not seem like the obvious choice for lust, but his passion and desire for life and those around him makes him the most lustful character living under the sea.

He’s eager to please and will stop at nothing to try and gain the affection of everyone living in Bikini Bottom.

Lust works both ways when it comes to the Delonghi Nespresso EN265BAE coffee machine – not only will you fall in love with this easy-to-use device, but it sets out to deliver the please you with the perfect coffee every time.

The integrated Aeroccino milk frother, automatic ejection of used capsules and one-litre removable water reservoir makes your morning brew an effortless experience, and the starter pack of 12 capsules will let you taste Nespresso’s range of coffee varieties so that you can find the one that you’ll be lusting over for years to come.

Gluttony

Last but not least, Spongebob’s pet snail Gary. While there may be some jokes about forgetting to feed Gary, the life of the snail revolves around eating or being hungry.

We’re always hungry for something new to watch and there can never be too much to choose from when it comes to television viewing.

The Panasonic DMR-HW220 twin tuner recorder features one terabyte of storage – plenty of space to record season after season of your favourite shows – as well as bonus access to Quickflix streaming for three months.

Pause and rewind live TV or enjoy the 2D to 3D converter, the world is your oyster when it comes to the viewing experience on the Panasonic DMR-HW220 twin tuner recorder.

All the way from the land of the flightless bird, Krissy brings a part of New Zealand culture to the Appliances Online content team. And although she is adamant she does not say 'fush and chups', she can't deny her continuous use of the term 'sweet as' and her ongoing argument with her team on the correct name for jandals (thongs). One thing is for certain, however, her passion for her kiwi slang is matched with her love for sharing news, hacks and buying tips for all things appliances! Krissy's favourite appliance is the Tefal Cook4Me multi cooker, as she believes it's ok to let an appliance do all the work for you.
