Why are kitchen rangehoods all the rage?

Rangehoods

For the fashion conscious, decorative rangehoods can be the focal point of a kitchen. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials and can make or break a kitchen’s aesthetics.

For the practically minded, kitchen rangehoods are fundamental, and “the quiet achievers” in a kitchen.

“If you have a stove it’s automatic to have a rangehood,” says Appliances Online’s whitegood expert, Colin Jones. With forty years of experience working with appliances Jones specialises in helping people choose the right appliance for their home.

All the discoloration on the wall and roof of a kitchen comes from the steam, heat, and smoke produced by cooking on the stove.

“Oil particles in steam droplets will settle on your walls and ceiling, affecting the materials,” says Jones. “If you run your hands above a stove without a rangehood you’ll feel the grease. Rangehoods capture all the muck.”

Rangehoods will also filter out the smoke that stains walls and the smells that can linger in your kitchen and house for hours after cooking.”

Jones thinks that they are the most practical accessory in a kitchen, but that they too, can look good.

“A nice rangehood can change the whole look of your kitchen. Rounded rangehoods with glass can soften the appearance of stainless steel, or a traditional triangle rangehood has a professional look for the serious chef at home.”

Having once had to sit on the washing machine to stop it from bouncing into oblivion, Keri is today delighted with the new (smoother running) technologies that make housework easier every day. A self-confessed lazy-bones, Keri seeks out quirky inventions that ease the human workload, such as the robotic vacuum cleaner (wow). And as soon as someone figures out a Jetsons-like self-cleaning house, she will happily lay her pen to rest and retire from appliance journalism. Until then, her pick is a fridge that will tell her smartphone when it's time to pick up more beer on the way home. Magic.
