Cooktop not so hot? Sink on the brink? Oven need some lovin’?

If your kitchen’s looking less than bitchin’, it might be time to update your appliances. You’d be amazed what a difference it can make to the look and feel of your kitchen, and it needn’t cost the earth either – especially now that the End of Financial Year Sales are on.

But what’s hot right now? If you’re thinking stainless steel, think again – the latest designer appliances from Europe feature smooth black glass surfaces and integrated touch controls. (Stainless steel is so 2004!) Not only does black glass create a look that is subtle and sophisticated, it’s also easy to keep clean.

John Winning, CEO of Appliances Online, explains: “What we’re starting to see is a gradual move away from the stainless steel look. Twenty years ago all you could buy was white, ten years ago it was stainless steel, and today we’re starting to see a growth in popularity for appliances finished in black. This has been a big trend in Europe and it’s slowly starting to pick up in Australia.”

In keeping with this style trend, induction cooktops offer a flat glass surface that can also be used as additional bench space when not in use. Plus they’re much faster – an induction cooktop can bring a litre of water to the boil in around 90 seconds, which is 3 times faster than gas or electric.

At the other end of the style spectrum, many interior designers are opting for large freestanding cookers in bright colours with shiny chrome accessories. If you’re the kind of cook who likes to create a bit of theatre, an upright cooker from a brand like ILVE or Smeg is the perfect choice.

And if you want a quirky kitchen, retro-style appliances have been making a big comeback lately. Think kitsch Fifties-era fridges with rounded edges and colourful exteriors in red, pink, purple – basically any colour that tickles your fancy – bringing you the best of yesteryear with none of the thankless toil.

So if you’re overdue for an appliance upgrade, check out what’s on offer at Appliances Online during our End of Financial Year Sale and pick up a bargain on an appliance to suit your lifestyle!
