appliances online 8th birthday sale

Appliances Online is eight years old!  And we’re celebrating with our annual Birthday Sale – just in time for the upcoming holiday party season!

In case you need some inspiration for how you can get the most out of this sale, here are eight ways you can put our appliances to good use for a birthday party or other celebration:

1. Crack open the champagne!

If you’re over the age of eighteen, this is quite a popular way of making sure a birthday stays enjoyable.  And while a sneaky snifter isn’t appropriate for the guest of honour at a child’s birthday, if you’re an adult who has been looking after a horde of screaming kids all day, a nice glass of the good stuff may start looking very welcoming after a while.

If you want to lay down a bottle or two of the good stuff for such and occasion in the future, now could be a great time to grab one of our Wine Storage Cabinets, which are great for connoisseurs, collectors, and anyone else who enjoys a drop just the right temperature.

For non-wine beverages, one of our fridges and freezers should also work quite nicely.

2. Dress up smartly

As Alex Perry says, it’s always important to always dress like a gentleman.  This becomes doubly important for a special occasion such as a birthday.

These are all great reasons to grab an awesome washing machine with the appropriate wash modes and settings to keep your glad rags looking their best, so you can dress to impress.

3. Bake a cake!

While different countries have different birthday traditions, one of our favourites is still baking a cake.

When it comes to baking, you usually get the best results from an electric oven, as their dry heat delivers crispy crusts and fluffy centres.  But you can also get good results using the moister heat of gas ovens and even steam ovens, especially if you’re going for something with a glaze.

If you need inspiration for a particularly creative cake, we recommend the old-school classic of the Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book, or maybe modelling the cake in the likeness of your favourite celebrity.

And if you need a few tips for how to decorate a cake, the blog over at Best Home Chef should be able to help you out – plus, the community of cooks has quite a collection of cake recipes available to share.

4. Clean up after yourself

Just because there’s a birthday going on doesn’t mean that we can get out of cleaning duties!

If your kitchen tends to look like a dirty dishes bomb has hit it, grab a dishwasher and get to work cleaning it!  It’s actually much less effort than you might expect, you big baby.

5. Indulge your inner child

There’s something depressing about growing older.  With each passing year, the ripples you make in the great ocean of life fade away behind you…

Why not cheer yourself up by watching some childish cartoons on a brand new TV?

Spongebob*insert obnoxious laughter here*

We’d recommend a bit of Spongebob Squarepants, because as we explored last year, the seemingly innocent show actually has quite a lot of sinful subtext.

6. Learn something new

It’s important to keep trying new things as you get older. Putting your mind to work on some wondrous new project could be just the incentive you need to make each new year better than the last.

Coffee questionWhat mysteries lurk in the bottom of this cup? Answer: caffeine.

As an example, why not learn how to make coffee?  If you’re not already a trained barista, learning to not ruin coffee is quite a rewarding skill, and you’ll finally be able to get the most out of the range of coffee machines we have available.

7. Cool off

We are making the final descent into summer now (though with all those bushfires recently, you’d be forgiven for thinking we’d already hit that mark early), so now would be a great time to buy yourself an Appliances Online birthday present in the form of an air conditioner.

If you opt for a reverse cycle model that warms in winter as well as cooling in summer, you’ll have yourself a gift that keeps on giving.

8. Get ready for guests!

If you’re having people over for a birthday or other celebration, you’ll want to get your home looking nice beforehand, and you’ll NEED to get it back up to habitable standards afterwards (if you parties are anything like mine).

"We have guests!"“WELCOME!  And you brought PLANTS!  That’s SMASHING!”

To help you out with this, we’ve got an assortment of different vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners and carpet washers for you to use, whether you’re getting ready for a party, or cleaning up after a drunken relative.

FREE BONUS IDEA: Have a BBQ!

We’re coming into summer, so ’tis the season to be barbequing!  Actually, that turn of phrase reminds me that Christmas and the generally silly season is also coming up…

Mark joined Appliances Online in November 2011 and has since learned more than he ever expected to know about appliances. He enjoys looking for new and unusual ways for to solve everyday problems using typical household appliances. When he’s not toiling at the desks of Appliances Online and Big Brown Box, he tries to find time to write the next big bestseller and draw satirical cartoons, but is too easily distracted by TV, music and video games. Mark’s favourite appliance is the Dyson Groom Tool, as he loves the concept of vacuuming your dog. Google+
